belly sleep

my DS is 3 months and wants to be a belly sleeper. He has colic and reflux and has restless and gassy nights on his back.He would wake up screaming from gas pain.
The other night trying to get him to relax and quiet down I flipped him on his belly...he slept 12 hours. I didn't...but he did great.

I just bought the anglecare monitor to try and help me now. I spoke with my ped and she wouldnt say it was ok, but didnt tell me not to. I think for legal issues.

Since he is a good belly sleeper should I just keep doing it or switch back to back sleep???
Any other mom do belly sleep at this early age?

Re: belly sleep

I started sleeping my son on his belly at around 5 weeks. My pediatrician would not okay it but when I told him that this was my plan and I needed support or another doctor he was quick to offer suggestions. He coached me on precautions to take and reviewed my plan (plan = starting with naps and moving to all sleep)

Some helpful tips:
*Nothing in the crib
*Not too hot in the room
*Place hand on back to check for rhythmic breathing
*Place hand on neck to feel warmth
*Monitor how child moves head while sleeping (I did this at the nap to see when he rotated from one side to another how he did it...it was a quick smooth action meaning he never got stuck face down in the mattress)

Re: belly sleep

At about 3 mos my son started sleeping on his belly. I also have the Angel Care Monitor. At first I was checking him all the time and now 3 months later I am totally fine with it. I only check him if I hear noises.

Re: belly sleep

thanks for the advice...I will make sure I have those things checked off. I already emptied the crib and thikn I have done everything to keep DS the safeest possible.
I just feel bad b/c it seems everywhere you look/read it says "back to sleep".

I guess I have the make the right decision for my DS and let him be the most comfortable.
