Berries? Are they ok? When can they have them?

I don't recall my ped mentioning this.
I notice that lot of the stage 2 foods have berries.
Apple/blueberry
Apple/blackberry etc

Are berries ok at 7 months?
Should I stick to one kind?

Any kind that should be avoided?

Re: Berries? Are they ok? When can they have them?

I was just going to post this. I saw that Gerber had apple/strawberry..and I wasn't sure whether to give it to DD because my pedi never mentioned it.

Thanks for posting this!

some people avoid strawberries that early.

I didn't. started berries around 6 months..blue, black, straw, rasp.

I use them on top of french toast or pancakes in lieu of syrup..mixed in to farina or yogurt or oatmeal.

he loves them. they are so healthy and the frozen berries are really economical.

Re: Berries? Are they ok? When can they have them?

We did berries around 6 months. DS is allergic to raspberries and seems to have a slight allergy to blueberries and strawberries. We keep giving him blueberries because he loves them and they just make his cheeks a bit red. I cut strawberries out but plan to re-intro over the summer when I can get them fresh. Raspberries cause him to break out all over, so I don't know when I'll give them to him again. The rash stays for days.

Re: Berries? Are they ok? When can they have them?

Ped gave ok for actual berries at 1 yr appt.
The stage 2's with berries are fine I think because of the small amounts in them
I gave DD strawberries and blueberries around 11 months

Ditto all this. But she's 2 now and refuses frozen anything ! haha!

We didn't do jarred food so around 6m we just sorta started with strawberries but I wasn't given a green light or anything by my pedi. It wasn't said "don't give it to her" so I never thought to second guess it.

Thank you ladies!
I am at least going to try the stage 2 mixes with blueberries.

Re: Berries? Are they ok? When can they have them?

My nephew broke out in rash after having strawberries at 8m, so I was really nervous.

I did the 4 day rule at 6m, then did all the rest of the berries the same way, and no problems for us.

also, keep in mind, manufacturers of baby foods tend to say that berries in their foods are so processed that there isn't any allergen in them. I don't know how true or right this is... but keep in mind, jarred berries are a bit different than freshly pureed ones.
