Best LI school districts
What, in your opinion, are the best school districts on Long Island? Where would you buy a house for the school district if money were no object?
Just curious.

Re: Best LI school districts
This comes up often. What is "best"? Best music classes, best football team, best special-education classes, best test scores, least crime, most extra-curricular activities, most new equipment? There's no one school that meets all of these.

We wanted either CSH or Harborfields for both the SD and the location.

I agree! That is the $1,000,000 question and no one can answer this for you. It depends on what you want out of a school and not every child has the same needs and not every parent has the same want's.

Re: Best LI school districts
I believe from what I read a few years ago, based on academics, Jericho, CSH and Manhasset are rated the highest.
I'm actually really curious now- I'm going to research.

Exactly. Many many children receive special education services these days either through pre-school services or school age services. The "best" school district in terms of test scores, etc. might not be the best for special education services.

Totally agree. You have to determine what is important for you and for your family. I love my district because I wanted something small with an actively involved community and a strong parent teacher connection - and I got exactly that! Others may wants something bigger or something with more special ed programs.
One thing I HAVE learned is that the school does not make the student. Just because you send your child to a school that churns out 50 Ivy Leaguers a year doesn't mean that your kid is suddenly going to be more driven or have an IQ leap of 50 points. Learning starts at home.
