Re: Best strollers for the city?

i registered for the baby jogger city mini. one hand fold, accommodates the baby from infant up, and is VERY light (16lbs). it's also very maneuverable and you can use one hand to push it. you can buy a bar so you can attach a car seat too if you want. i loved it when i test drove it at the store. go to BBB or BRU and try a few out.

btw - are you in brooklyn?

My SIL who lives in Forest Hills registered for a McClaren & a snap & go - that's it.

The snap & go is basically a base that the infant car seat fits right into.

I don't live in the city, but I see Bugaboo's whenever I am there and would probably consider one if I lived there or anywhere I didn't have to drive everyday...not the most affordable, but they seem good.

As far as convenience and affordability I also like the city mini baby jogger.

I say a Bugaboo is BEST for city living, but if you don't feel like you need a proper stroller like a Bug, however (as I have said many times) I feel that the Bug is too small for a toddler, and thats when a Maclaren is a brilliant piece of kit. I live in a neighbourhood like Queens and I love my Mac still after 2 years!

Re: Best strollers for the city?

If I were in the city I'd go for the Baby Jogger - still has the great wheels of the Bug, but it's lighter and easy to fold up -

The Bug, IMO would be a MAJOR issue going up/down the subway stairs and trying to get on the train when it's crowded -

I believe the baby has to be a certain weight before you can use the baby bjorn.

Re: Best strollers for the city?

I live in Manhattan. I had the Bugaboo when DD was young and it was great. I could get over every crack and go up stairs easily. On the few occassions someone didn't help me up the subway stairs, I coudl do it myself because the big back wheels were great on stairs.

As DD got older, I got the Maclaren Quest, which is what I have now. I woudl NOT recommend it for an infant. DD can feel every bump and crack on the street and the only thing its good for on the subway is easy to open and close. Maybe you can lift up the stroller with the baby and go up and down by yourself, but I can't with my 2 year old.

Re: Best strollers for the city?

I have a Maclaren Quest which is my favorite for city use, but I don't think babies start sitting well in them until about 6 months or so. I've never tried it, but what about Baby Jogger's City Mini? It looks really cute.

ETA: What makes the Mac so great is that they are lightweight and fold easily with one hand -- you can actually fold the stroller while holding the baby. They also steer well and are compact.

When the time comes, you can do some reading on babywearing, you see loads of people doing it. There are lots of different slings and wraps out there.

heh, i live in prospect heights/park slope and those slate sidewalks especially are hard to walk on - i can only imagine a stroller on them!

the baby jogger is the best imo (this is without any real world experience of course). the bugaboo was so expensive and i've heard babies outgrow them pretty fast. plus when i went to the store it was way too heavy for me. i'm only 5'4" and i could only imagine trying to carry it up a crowded subway flight of stairs with a child inside. Chat Icon the baby jogger on the other hand was so light and like i said before collapsed with one hand (you can pick the baby up in one arm and them grab the stroller in the other without breaking a sweat!). plus it had much more room for the child to grow into it. i'm planning on carrying/swaddling (wearing) the baby in the beginning too and want a stroller that will grow up with him/her. this one will accommodate an infant in the case that i really NEED a stroller while they're little for some reason, but will also him/her for a long time. plus it collapses to nothing for easy storage and i can carry it up my building's steps no problem. it also drives amazingly well.

in reality though, all of these suggestions are great in narrowing down your choices, but in the end you're really should go to the store for a test drive because something that one person loves you may hate. also try looking on youtube.com on babygizmo for reviews of a bunch of strollers and demonstrations. they really helped.
