I do know some local peds that recommend this, but the standard is that all bf babies get a dose of Vit D per day (D vi Sol is my recommendation till 6mth). I personally don't recommend formula, but I do recommend baby gets a bottle of pumped breastmilk so they get used to a bottle.

I was only told to give them their vitamins starting at 6 weeks but NEVER formula.

Thats insane! Her ped is obviously not versed in breastfeeding. I recommend she finds ped who is more knowledgeable! Ughhh...
All she needs to do is make sure the baby gets some sun everyday. My ped suggested stripping baby down to a diaper, putting her in a warm room near a window to get sunlight. She didn't recommend any supplements or artificial means since most are put out by formula companies.
I agree with this - the sun provides enough Vitamin D, just make sure the baby isn't in the sun for TOO long. Just 10 minutes a day should be enough.
