BF Moms and Dairy/Soy Allergies
How did you diagnose your DCs allergy/sensitivity? What were the signs? And...I've been dairy free for 16 days and DS still has blood in his stool. G.I. said to eliminate soy but also stay dairy free. Does this make sense to anyone? Why can't I reintroduce dairy if we know that it's not affecting him (he had blood when I was and when I wasn't eating it, so it can't be dairy, right?). Anyway, thanks for sharing your stories.

Re: BF Moms and Dairy/Soy Allergies
I didn't BF, but a lot of kids with dairy allergies also have soy allergies.
And I think 16 days may not necessarily be enough time to heal the gut

Re: BF Moms and Dairy/Soy Allergies
I believe it's somewhere around 60% of dairy allergy babies are also allergic to soy. And it can take about 2 weeks for the dairy to leave your system. Plus, like PP said, his gut might still be aggravated.
DS had blood & mucus in his stool, and the soy formula did not help, so i went back to BFing while dairy free, and I noticed an improvement within a few days. Hang in there!

Re: BF Moms and Dairy/Soy Allergies
Dairy and soy allergies go hand in hand. I gave up both and there were still traces of blood for over 2 months. Normally, it takes at least 6 weeks to fully heal. The GI doctor was about to sent DS for a sigmoidoscopy but then we tested one more diaper and it was clear. It just took a really long time to heal his gut.
Initally, I started with just giving up dairy and saw big improvements, but DS still had left over symptoms like gas, spitting up, and mucous. These did not fully resolve until I cut all soy out as well.
It's a hard diet to stick to at first, but not so bad once you are used to it. If you need nay help finding food, let me know.

Usually dairy is the cuprit, in addition to soy. Eliminating dairy might not have cleared up the blood since you are still eating soy. They usually go together.

Re: BF Moms and Dairy/Soy Allergies
as i understand it, it is the protein
some babies aren't mature enough to break it down
both my kids are no dairy/soy babies
getting off dairy cleared their rashes, soy fixed their diapers
good luck!

Re: BF Moms and Dairy/Soy Allergies
google mspi Thanks so much! I will begin cutting out soy today too. I still don't understand why I can't eat dairy since we know that's not the culprit because he's still having blood. Can anyone help understand why I need to abstain from something that isn't causing the problem???
