BF moms what is a typical diet for you? Updated
What do you eat? Especially since the quality of BM is affected.
ETA: The type of diet determines what kinds of fats your breastmilk is made of..for example if you eat alot of processed foods its comprised mostly of trans fats which is not healthy BM-your body makes BM but is "junk BM". No one has a perfect diet so I wanted tips of how to eat more balanced. Or ideas of foods to eat cause I am at a loss.

Re: BF moms what is a typical diet for you?
Definitly not what I should be and not enough. Diner is usually either chicken, turkey, pork or fish and then some sort of veggie or potatoe or rice. Breakfest and Lunch I always have a problem with eating. If their are left overs then I will eat that for lunch. Sometime I don't eat breakfest other times I make myself some sort of egg omelette if the kids are cooperating that particular day. I do still take my prenatels everyday. I drink alot of water.
I actually had no idea that what I eat would affect my BM. I just assumed I should eat how I did before (this has alway been my eating style, not the greatest) but drink my water, so I do.

Re: BF moms what is a typical diet for you?
I drink TONS of water. For breakfast I'll have oatmeal, english muffin, or an egg sandwich. For lunch... it's usually leftovers from the night before, or oatmeal - again I'm usually snacking on whatever carbs I can get my hands on throughout the day. Dinner... chicken in various ways, steak, or a pasta dish.
I've had to cut dairy out of my diet and watch for milk proteins in things - DD has BAD reactions to it.
I was VERY diligent in the beginning watching what I ate and how it affected my BM, but now... I chance a lot of things and if something happens to affect it, or her... I know better next time.

I pretty much eat what ever I feel like eating. I don't notice any affect on him.
ETA: Could you elaborate a little more on your question regarding the quality of the BM. I have been doing a bit of reading about nutrition and I haven't seen anything about the any specific food affecting its quality. But maybe I am misunderstanding your questions. Thanks

Same here, except I avoid onions/garlic (foods I typically don't like anyway)

Re: BF moms what is a typical diet for you? Updated
my meals are always very healthy, I hardly eat processed foods for them, but my snacks aren't always as nutrituous and usually sweet (my downfall!)...
For bfast its usually either: oatmeal or high fiber/low sugar cereal (like kashi good friends or fiber one type cereal) w/plain yogurt or high fiber toast w/smart beat butter (fat free butter) and a peice of fruit or egg whites & toast
for lunch its usually: turkey w/miracle whip or low fat mayo on high fiber bread or a fat free cheese sandwich w/fruit or peanut butter on the high fiber bread
for dinner: dinner is always balanced, like chicken w/a vegitable and a starch. Usually its not as low fat as bfast or lunch, but still healthy. I eat w/DH and he eats more regular stuff.
My problems are my snacks...they are usually low in fat but no nutritional value and sweet ... like graham crackers, pudding, low fat ice cream...the stuff I'd need to cut out if I wanted to lose weight!! Along w/the chocolate craving on occasion of course!
eta: I don't notice a difference in my BM at all...although I do believe from experience that oatmeal works for making more BM

Re: BF moms what is a typical diet for you? Updated
I try to eat as I did when I was pregnant - i.e. i try to eat for nutritional value not just to eat - so i try to keep track of eating fruits, veggies, protein etc and try not to eat any junk or foods with alot of junk in them.
the hardest thing for me is finding the time to eat enough.

Just don't eat lots of foods with trans-fat (i.e. junk food) if you want to avoid passing it on to your baby.
I also take a prenatal vitamin with extra DHA.

My diet is pretty healthy. I'm also a vegetarian so I eat lots of fresh veggies. The issue I have not getting a chance to eat.
Breakfast- Plain yogart with berries and a little honey
Lunch- Pita with hummus and lettuce.
Dinner- Usually protein from tofu or beans and lots of veggies.
Snacks are usually so kind of nut, a smoothie or veggies.

same here i just avoid milk, garlic and really spicy foods, also chocolate.
But my typical day of eating is:
Bkfst: Organic Cereal with 2% or soy milk or an egg sandwich with lowfat cheese. Fruit cup
Lunch: Sandwich like turkey with mayo and sometimes a Kashi cereal bar. When i am traveling i eat a salad and soup at Panera Bread if i can find one. Fruit cup
Dinner: Chicken or fish with brown rice, salad.
