BF moms who struggled to get DC on a bottle - NEED HELP- UPDATED W/?
So DD is 9 weeks old. I had huge issues with DS getting him to nurse so this time I EBF with DD. Nursing has not been an issue - in fact its so easy this time. We decided (with some consulting with a lactation nurse) not to introduce the bottle until she was 6-7 weeks old. She has not taken to the bottle at all and I have tried a few different types. DH has tried with her a couple of times and she has refused crying & screaming until she is red in the face. He has not been successful at all - I have tried leaving the hose. No luck. The only way I can get her to drink the bottle is for her to get exhausted until she is half asleep and then she drinks. I have given her 1 bottle a day like this. Its exhausting. She plays with the nipple and does not seem to get the sucking part of it.
I am headed back to work in another 3 weeks and do not know what to do to get her to drink from the bottle. Any advice? Please I need help.....
UPDATE: So I have been continuing to try for the last 3 days. She is still fighting the bottle. Yesterday my sister and brother in law tried and they were both unsuccessful. My problem is that DH is not being patient at all with her. I don't know what to do with him and this is actually causing arguments - me saying he needs to be more patient, him saying she won't do it with him. He tried again today while I was out running an errand and she cried bloody murder. My MIL was here and she soothed her to sleep.
So my question is - were you the ones that were trying with your DC or was it your spouses? She drank an ounce with me this afternoon but that was a struggle and took almost 20 minutes. I don't know what to do.....I felt like a failure years ago b/c DS didn't want to BF and now with DD I feel like a failure because I wonder if I waited too long. My only choice is to wait another week until my mom is back from vacation. Need your continuing advice.....
PS - she took the ounce with the Tommee Tippee bottle. I picked one up yesterday.

Re: BF moms who struggled to get DC on a bottle - NEED HELP
Keep trying! I had huge issues with DD. I bought EVERY bottle out there! I was so frustrated...i felt like I could never leave her and when I did...i felt bad for whomever stayed home with her....because she would just not take a bottle. I finally tried Tommee Tippee bottles and they worked!!! DD drank from them instantly.
Once you discover the bottle that works...i would give her a few ounces everyday so she won't "forget" how to drink from bottles.
Good luck! Something will eventually work....and if she is hungry enough she will eventually drink from it. It $ucks!!!

I remember this stage. SO not fun
Tommee Tippee worked for us too. DS screamed his head off when he was hungry and I wasn't nursing him.
Some tips: -Make sure you are not there when someone is feeding her. -Leave her with someone who can tolerate the cries. DH could not. MIL was better. -Try feeding her when he is not starving and when she is JUST getting hungry. She may be more receptive to it. -Know that she WILL eat. She is not going to starve herself. It is a battle of wills...
Just keep trying mama! She will get it eventually! Once DS took to the bottle he had no problems with them whatsoever. At 7 months now you would have no idea he ever gave me an issue the way he sucks them down!

loey NEVER took to bottles.
he would basically just eat a few ounces during the day and then when i got home from work, he'd "catch up" by BFing a little extra. our ped. said it was totally fine

I dealt with this too.
We ended up with the Dr. Browns wide bottle. I feel like we tried tons.
My DH or Mom would try to feed her, and over time, I would start too.
We just tried to make everything as close to the breast as possible. We warmed the milk and that helped too.
I hated this stage.

I have struggled with this constantly with DS. Now at almost 11 months he will only take a bottle from DH and my mom and only if I am not in the house. He still refuses from the babysitter that has him 3 days a week and myself. The "tricks" that they use are:
-use platex drop-ins and the brown/natural nipples that are fast flow -give him a bottle in a quiet place with absolutely no distractions and nobody around -warm the milk up -warm the nipple under hot water so that it softens the latex
Good luck...I know how frustrating this is!

Re: BF moms who struggled to get DC on a bottle - NEED HELP- UPDATED W/?
Both of my boys hate/hated the bottle. It didnt matter what was in it either, pumped milk, powder formula, RTF, Similac, Enfamil, etc.
I just stopped BFing last week bc my 8 month old is sooooo distracted by everything else, I had to put him on the bottle. I did not feel he was feeding long enough to get a good feeding. But he hates the bottle too. Both DH and I feed him, he hates the bottle from everyone.
- Definitely warm it - Let them hold a toy over the bottle as a distraction, have 20 toys sitting next to you, some are better than others
My philosophy is I do whatever it takes, as the bottle is temporary. Before you know it, they will be on sippy cups and milk.
