BFing moms; a question about YOUR diet and your child...
I have been BFing DS almost exclusively since he came home from the hospital. He is almost 6 weeks, and today is the 3rd time only that he has had a problem with heartburn/reflux. The first time was in the hospital when he was on formula. We immediately switched him to soy b/c we had the same problem with DS #1 and it was a milk allergy. He was fine after that.
The second time was 2 weeks ago. It was random and it only happened after one feeding, so I did not put too much thought into it.
Today he is spitting up that *cottage cheese* like stuff, and it has bee all day. So my question is, could this still be maybe something I ate yesterday that is still affecting him all day today?
The poor kid is screaming and craning his head all day, so I am pretty sure that he has heartburn
Any help is appreciated. (And I called the ped and they were not very helpful as it is after hours and I do not think he needs to go to the ER...)
TIA

Re: BFing moms; a question about YOUR diet and your child...
It is definitely a possibility. I am testing out foods right now to see what is bothering DD. So far I am not eating any apples or carrots today. I know, it seems like an odd allergy, but I really don't eat much that could bother her-- i cut out dairy, shellfish, peanuts, chocolate, caffeine, spicy food-- so I am lft with not much. Just try eliminating a food a day and see if it helps. Good luck!

It's likely not a true allergy as the immune system isn't up and running yet. More likely an intolerance.
My DS had major tummp issues any time I drank or ate a milk product. When I cut them out he was fine and slowly introduced it back into my diet about 6 or 9 months. He eventually switched to cow's milk at 1 year old (continued part time BF until 21 months) no problem.

Re: BFing moms; a question about YOUR diet and your child...
Thanks all for your responses. He seems to finally be better today. I went to the Ped with him yesterday for his regular 6 wk, and she also told me that what I thought was typical baby acne is actually a reaction on his skin. He is definitely very sensitive, so I am going on a very bland diet first, and then will eliminate a food a day if needed (if the reflux comes back).
