BFing moms... some questions from a preggo
Hi ladies
I really want to BF and i am extremely clueless about all that goes into it so if you dont mond, i have a few questions:
1. Are there any good bks out there on BFing?
2. Did you register for bottles too and if so, which brand/kind? And which nipples?
3. Did you use formula also and if so, why? And which kind?
4. Are you pumping and if so, what pump do you recommend?
THANK YOU SO MUCH

Re: BFing moms... some questions from a preggo
1. Are there any good bks out there on BFing?
There are books, but I didnt use any. I took the free class offered at the hospital I delivered at. Then winged it from there.
2. Did you register for bottles too and if so, which brand/kind? And which nipples? Yes. I later on switched them. Both Born free and Dr. Browns BPA free bottles are good. But you wont know what kind your baby prefers until he/she is here.
3. Did you use formula also and if so, why? And which kind?
my first dd I supplemented b/c of low supply did Enfamil with iron.
4. Are you pumping and if so, what pump do you recommend?
I first got the playtex one.. stunk! Then I got the Medela advance (backpack one) and LOVE IT.

Re: BFing moms... some questions from a preggo
1. Are there any good bks out there on BFing?
I didn't ready any specific books, just researched on-line, read mag articles & got free booklets from my ob. The class I took at the hospital was very helpful also.
2. Did you register for bottles too and if so, which brand/kind? And which nipples?
I just registered for the Avent starter pack
3. Did you use formula also and if so, why? And which kind?
I only gave formula the first 2 night b/c ds didn't seem to be getting enough but after that, he would even take any formula until around 6mo. The hospital lets you take home the rtf bottles & I'm sure you'll get samples of powder. I used Enfamil.
4. Are you pumping and if so, what pump do you recommend?
I didn't need to pump much until I went back to work & even then it wasn't often. I used the Avent Isis manual pump & i thought it was very convenient
Don't worry, by the end of my pg I had read so much on bf that I just wanted to do it already!

Hi ladies
I really want to BF and i am extremely clueless about all that goes into it so if you dont mond, i have a few questions:
1. Are there any good bks out there on BFing?
Honestly, the best book I read was the pamphlet they gave out during my BF class, that class was SO helpful!
2. Did you register for bottles too and if so, which brand/kind? And which nipples? We registered for Born Free, but didn't introduce bottles (only a few after she was born, the hospital ones while she worked on her latch), again until approx. 6 weeks. I wouldn't register for too many b/c you don't know if your DC will like them. Babies can be very picky!
3. Did you use formula also and if so, why? And which kind?
Enfamil Gentelease, rec from the dr. he felt it was the closest to BM.
4. Are you pumping and if so, what pump do you recommend?
Medela dual pump backpack
Sorry I don't know why this is in all quotes!

Re: BFing moms... some questions from a preggo
I have The Nursing Mothers Companion---I found it very helpful in the beginning and for any 'troubleshooting'. I registered for Born Free bottles, but my DS didn't like them, he had a tough time with the bottle in general, he would only take the very basic gerber bottles. When I asked my LC which bottles were best, she said whatever works for your DC, so I guess I would recommend registering for more then one type just in case. I didn't use any formula, but I had enfamil lipil at home in case. I did use a pump, I initially rented a pump from the hospital and then bought the Ameda Purely Yours. It was resonably priced & worked great! GL!

Re: BFing moms... some questions from a preggo
1. Are there any good bks out there on BFing?
I bought "The Exclusive Art of Breastfeeding" by LeLeche League. I didn't read it start to finish. I read it during the beginning long nursing sessions.
2. Did you register for bottles too and if so, which brand/kind? And which nipples? I just registered for the Playtex Starter Gift Set. I think I have only used a bottle maybe 3 times in 10 months
3. Did you use formula also and if so, why? And which kind? Ryan only had formula 3 times and it was while he was in the hospital. And I didn't want to give it to him. But they made me because he was Jaundice.
4. Are you pumping and if so, what pump do you recommend?
I have the Medella Pump In Style. I don't pump all that often. But I have used to start an emergency supply in the freezer.
HTH! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: BFing moms... some questions from a preggo
Also wanted to add that when I was really close to my due date I started freaking out that I didn't know "how" to breast feed. I just went to youtube searched for Breastfeeding and found a few videos I thought were helpful.
Also, make sure you use the LC at the hospital. I had her come into my room twice a day for 3 days. Even though after the first session she told me I was doing great. I made her come back. Why not? They cost a lot of $$ once you are out of the hospital.

Hi ladies
I really want to BF and i am extremely clueless about all that goes into it so if you dont mond, i have a few questions:
1. Are there any good bks out there on BFing?
I didn't read any books. I went to kellymom.com and also took a BF class. I think the class helped me so much. I also really used the LC in the hospital to help.
2. Did you register for bottles too and if so, which brand/kind? And which nipples?
I registered for both Dr. Brown's and Born Free. DS didn't like the Dr. Brown's and preferred a wide neck bottle. So we only use Born Free now.
3. Did you use formula also and if so, why? And which kind?
Never used any formula so far and DS is over 6 months old.
4. Are you pumping and if so, what pump do you recommend?
I pump while at work. I recommend the Medela Pump In Style and a hands free bra.

Re: BFing moms... some questions from a preggo
1. Are there any good bks out there on BFing?
Didn't use any books. I took a class on BFing at the hospital.
2. Did you register for bottles too and if so, which brand/kind? And which nipples?
I used Dr. Brown bottles and really liked them.
3. Did you use formula also and if so, why? And which kind?
With my first DD, I didn't supplement. My supply was very good. I just had a baby and with this baby we are supplementing a bottle or 2 a day--mostly b/c DD #1 requires time and nursing takes really long.
4. Are you pumping and if so, what pump do you recommend?
I do pump. I use the Medela Pump in Style Advanced. It's a great pump and I would highly recommend it.

Re: BFing moms... some questions from a preggo
1. Are there any good bks out there on BFing?
I didn't read any--but I found myself an AWESOME lactation consultant and she was my salvation!
2. Did you register for bottles too and if so, which brand/kind? And which nipples?
We registered for the Dr. Brown's BPA-free bottles. They're maybe not the closest ones to the breast, but they've worked out just fine for us.
3. Did you use formula also and if so, why? And which kind?
I had to use formula for 10 days while on a medication. I used Good Start, and it really agreed with her!
4. Are you pumping and if so, what pump do you recommend?
I have nothing but good things to say about the Medela Pump In Style. It's very gentle and gets the job done!

Re: BFing moms... some questions from a preggo
1. Are there any good bks out there on BFing? There are, but I didn't read any lol.
2. Did you register for bottles too and if so, which brand/kind? And which nipples? I registered for Dr, Brown's, but they got annoying to clean..they have alot of parts. I also wanted a nipple more close to the breast so I could switch from breast to bottle, so now I use Playtex Nurser Drop- Ins.. I love them.
3. Did you use formula also and if so, why? And which kind? I tried a few & DS hated them all - guess he got used to my milk.
4. Are you pumping and if so, what pump do you recommend? I use the Lansinoh Double Electric pump - it is reasonably priced and works great.

Re: BFing moms... some questions from a preggo
1. Are there any good bks out there on BFing? I found a BFing class very helpful. also the Kellymom website.
2. Did you register for bottles too and if so, which brand/kind? And which nipples? We decided to use glass bottles. We got the classic evenflo ones that come with a custom flow nipple. We got 6 of the small bottles (5 ounces). I started pumping at 4 weeks so that I had some flexibility with bottles. my DD took the bottles fine.
3. Did you use formula also and if so, why? And which kind? We haven't used any formula yet
4. Are you pumping and if so, what pump do you recommend? Im using the medela pump. I got the single one though because it was a lot less expensive and I don't pump everyday. It works great so far. If I thought that I would pump more I would definitely get the double pump.
Also, I highly recommend the Lansinoh nipple cream. It helped a lot in the beginning. I used it for about a week after every feeding.

Re: BFing moms... some questions from a preggo
1. Are there any good bks out there on BFing?
I did not use one.
2. Did you register for bottles too and if so, which brand/kind? And which nipples?
I registered for Dr Brown's but right now also have playtex, adiri, born free because she seems to gag on the longer dr Brown nipples. Adiri (sp?) are shaped like a breast - haven't tried them yet though.
3. Did you use formula also and if so, why? And which kind?
I do occasionally for convenience if we're out somewhere I can't really bf (I don't like to do it in public). I have the similac advance ready to use formula...no refrigeration or heating needed.
4. Are you pumping and if so, what pump do you recommend?
Medela pump in style.
