BFing Question from a new mom...
I nursed Benjamin at the hospital but he went into NICU and for various reasons I supplemented with formula. I thought at 4 days pp I felt my milk come in but the volume I get is so miniscule. I pump with a hospital grade machine and I barely get any milk at all.
I am now 14 days pp and it is not getting any better.
Any suggestions? I've met with a lactation consultant and they told me to nurse & pump more often. I can't imagine fitting more in at this point.
Did anyone else have a problem with a low supply?

Every 3 hours - except in the middle of the night. I also nurse him for a bit and then supplement w/formula.
I should have mentioned he has no problem w/ latching or sucking.

Re: BFing Question from a new mom...
Are you taking anything to help boost your supply? There are lots of products out there (mother's milk tea, more milk) that can help. Don't let the pump dictate how much supply you have. Babies are way better at getting milk than a machine. You just might not be a good pumper and that's totally fine. I was lucky if I was able to get 1.5-2 oz from both sides when I pumped! I stopped pumping cause it was annoying not to get anything. my dd is growing and gaining weight so something must be in my boobs! !

Were you planning on just BFing him or giving bottles of pumped milk & formula?

Re: BFing Question from a new mom...
Yes, my supply built VERY slowly!!! It only got better at around 8 weeks for me. I drink "mother's milk" tea, 2 to 3 times a day with 2 tea bags in the tea. I also take fenugreek 3 times a day and I just bought another supplement called "more milk plus" on the lactaction innovation website. I will let you how that one works. To be honest I don't think the fenugreek made too much of a difference but once I began to use 2 tea bags in the tea I saw a difference. It is true though the best thing to build ur milk supply is to nurse. You baby is little right now and needs very little to be nourished. Their stomachs are the size of a ping pong, so a little will do just fine for them.

Re: BFing Question from a new mom...
I would suggest cutting out the formula and just putting him on your b for a while to get your supply up

I planned on bf-ing and pumping. I am going to be going back to work in 3 months and hoped I would have built up a supply to get through another few weeks. We also want to try again for another baby asap so I can't bf for very long.

I tried this but I feel bad that he is just not getting enough. After awhile on the breast he starts to get fussy - probably when he can't get any more milk.

Re: BFing Question from a new mom...
I'd suggest making sure you nurse first before giving him bottled formula. That way your baby is getting as much as he can get from you while increasing your milk supply. At the same time, you will know he is getting what he needs from the formula.

How long are you going in between nursing/pumping sessions during the middle of the night? How long are you nursing him for before you give him a bottle?
Make sure you're drinking plenty of water. Oatmeal may also help your supply. You can take Mother's Milk Tea or More Milk.
You should try to nurse as often as possible. Your body only produces what it needs to. Supplementing can hurt your supply.
