Birth Story & Pictures!!!!
Vincent John’s Birth Story:
For those of you who know me pretty well, know that I had a pretty eventful pregnancy so it’s no surprise that my birth story would be any different.
On Thursday, September 20th I went to the high risk doctor for a growth sonogram and a non stress test (heart beat) … I actually went alone because it was the first week I was off from work and I wanted it done early in the day so I told my DH and my mom to go to work.
The sono tech did all her measurements and determined the baby was “small”, meaning it had not grown in 2 weeks. In addition she could not find any amniotic fluid. She said “looks like we’re having a baby now” … So I freak out and say “Wait my husband is in Manhattan! We can’t.” So she said “don’t worry we have time. The doctor wants to see you anyway and reevaluate your status.” So I was waiting for what felt like forever for the doctor to come in. I still didn’t call my husband at this point because I didn’t want to freak him out without knowing all the details. The doctor measured me better than the sono tech and said the baby did in fact grow some, but the sono tech was right I had only ONE small pocket of fluid left and my placenta was calcified and this baby was cooked and ready to come out. They put me on the fetal monitor to make sure the baby was OK and his heart rate was perfect (140 range as always). I was having NO contractions unfortunately. So she told me to call DH and to go downstairs to L&D to get admitted for induction.
Thank goodness I had all my bags in the car, so I gathered everything and went to L&D. DH met me in less than an hour at LIJ from Manhattan. At noon, they checked me and I was 1 cm and very high still so they sent me down the hall to begin the induction process. They had me eat since I was on insulin shots and they ordered the cervadil, which they said should be available around 3 pm. Right at 3 pm they came in and said the baby had a D-Cell (??) ... a dip in heart rate and they needed to monitor us for at least an hour. The doctors basically said, we watch after one dip, we watch closely after two dips and we c-section after 3 dips.
At 4 pm they determined the baby’s heart rate was strong and I was fine so they put the cervadi in. And we wait and we wait and we wait, LOL. At around 8 pm my parents and MIL came to see us so I sent DH to the diner up the block with his mom. It was going to be a loooooong night and he needed the energy. While he was at the diner, the oncall doctor rushed in and took out the cervadil and said the baby was not responding well at all to the induction and they needed to remove the medicine. She checked me and after 4-1/2 hours I was only 2 cm. DH came back from the diner and the doctor came to speak to us. They basically told us that the baby was not responding well to the induction, there were 3 dips but they took out the medicine and wanted to watch closely without the meds in. They said I could labor on my own all night and they would evaluate in the AM. At this point I am seeing the writing on the wall. I wasn’t in labor when I went into the induction and only made it 1 cm in almost 5 hours. This night was going to suck and I was probably going to end up with a c-section the following day.
We made our parents go home because I figured nothing would be happening for hours. However, as soon as our parents left, the 3 doctors and 2 nurses rushed in and basically said there was another 2 dips in a row and they needed to get the baby out immediately. They prepped me for surgery and got DH ready and at 10:54 PM Vincent John was born. That 45 minutes to an hour from when they said “we need to get the baby out” was the single most scariest moment in my life … I was terrified for the baby, for me, for DH. I wasn’t really prepped for a C-section mentally and while they took good care of me, it really s*cked. It wasn’t the birth experience I expected at all. I never experienced one contraction or anything.
I am so grateful that Vincent is in perfect health and that I was taken care of accordingly though. The right thing was done and it was done swiftly and professionally. It turns out that the cord was wrapped around his neck and without any fluid there was no way to get it unwrapped on his own. He was basically choking himself. I am healing well and Vincent is thriving. He is breastfeeding and DH is supplementing with formula to allow me some zzzz’s. I couldn’t ask for an easier baby.
So that’s my story .. pretty s*cky experience … but in the end, a perfect gift! Here are some pics!

Congrats, Lisa!!!  He is gorgeous!!! I think he already has your eyes.  I'm sorry to hear that your experience was disappointing, glad everything worked out. Enjoy every single second with you handsome little man.

Im sorry it wasnt the best birth experience. I 100% understand that being there myself...tiem will get you over that.
Rest as much as you can. That stomach needs to HEAL!

OMG - Lisa - I just got chills reading your story! Thank god he was born a perfect little boy - and thank god you had great doctors around you who knew what they were doing!!
It seems like every time you sent someone out of the hospital something big happened.  Vincent likes to keep his family on their toes already!!!
So happy to be seeing you on the other side now!
ETA: I actually didn't mind (and was kind of relieved that I got a c section) but let me tell you now so that you are fully prepared....it took me a full 6 weeks to feel MUCH better. Even after 6 I felt twinges....but I was really thinking that after 3 I should be back to normal....it takes some time for your body to heal so try and relax as much as you possibly can!
ETA Again: How many pounds was he born at -- he looks like such a little peanut!!

congratulations Lisa! So happy to hear the good news. sorry to hear the labor wasnt what you had expected, but at the end you got a happy healthy baby boy!! and hes beautiful!!!

Thanks so much girls! He wazs born at 6 lbs 4 oz ... he's really a skinny baby, all bones and a tiny little head, LOL. I cannot get enough of him at all, I just want to eat him up!
