Birthday party ..who to invite?

OK ...not sure what to do. DS is in kindergarten and I am not sure if I invite his whole class to his birthday party, just boys? I want to do the right thing. What have others done? He is my first so I am new to this whole thing. We are renting out a room that could hold at least 30 people.

We only invite the girls that my DD is friends with, and mail them to the home with the address provided on the class list.

Either is fine. People in our school either invite all one gender or the whole class. So go with whatever one you prefer.

Re: Birthday party ..who to invite?

We just invited the boys in my DS's class for his 6th birthday. Some people invited the whole class, others invited just the boys (or just the girls), and some invited just a few kids if it was small party at home. I think everyone just does what they can do, and no one gets offended. We all understand that parties are super expensive, etc. Chat Icon

Birthday party ..who to invite?

When my son was in K last year, we didn't invite anyone from his class. His bday is the end of Sept., so he didn't really know anyone enough to want to invite them. We just had his pre-k friends (none of which ended up at his school) and kid's in the family.

This year, in 1st grade, he picked a few of the friends he made last year to invite, but not the whole class. With 22 kids in the class, plus other friends and family, it was just get too expensive.

Re: Birthday party ..who to invite?

Honestly, I know some people don't agree, but I have never invited the whole class or even just the boys. I gave always asked DS to pick 3-4 kids he's friendly with. Sometimes it's just boys, sometimes it's a mx of boys and girls. I see no need to invite kids he doesn't play with.

Same here, only that DS's birthday is on October.

Re: Birthday party ..who to invite?

DS is in K this year.

We too decided that we are going to let him choose a few close friends and go to the movies or something.

His birthday is during the holiday break anyway and I'm sick of paying a small fortune for only a handful of kids who show up.

We also don't want him to continue to expect a huge to-do every year either.

I have another friend that has a few kids and decided she just let's them pick out one special toy for their bday.

She has told them they can't afford the big parties.

Birthday party ..who to invite?

Our school has a rule about invites. If you are not inviting the entire class they cannot be handed out at school.

Interesting.

I'm sure that this could create drama for the teacher, so I totally get it.
