Birthday Wish List

I decided to make a wish list for my daughter who will be turning 1 next month. I'm not sure if family and friends will like the idea of the wish list since most of the items on it are what I want my daughter to have. What are your thoughts/opinions? The friends and family I have asked are telling me its not a bad idea. I mainly have it in case people want to get her a gift and don't know what to get her. Also, does anyone have any good wording to tell people about it? Thanks so much! Chat Icon

Birthday Wish List

We do this for our son and no one has a problem that I know of. We make a list on Amazon, I send the link to my mom and MIL and my grandmothers and they spread the word or email it to whoever asks. For his first birthday I put a little sticker in the invites (because it was a bigger party) saying he had a wish list available at Toys R Us.

Re: Birthday Wish List

I am now at the point where my family tells me to buy things for my kids that they want/I think they like in a set budget and then they pay me back, so a wishlist is 100% fine in my book.

Re: Birthday Wish List

I wish we did this. lots of people asked us what we wanted and since it wasn't planned, I didn't know what to say. Also, all we got were toys and books so many of the toys and books were duplicates (of other peoples gifts but moreso things we already owned for awhile) and not everyone gives you gift receipts so I was stuck with the duplicates. if they were good gifts but i just already had them, i decided i would just regift to some of my friends. and then things i did not like i had to return for less money. i think a wish list is good because it helps you not get things twice or things you already own.

Re: Birthday Wish List

I LOOOOOOOVE Wish Lists. I've been using one for my DD since she was born (she's almost 5) for both for Xmas and her birthday. It's a godsend. She ends up with gifts that are age appropriate, that we have room for, that she will like, and we avoid the problem of duplicates. We have SO much family on both sides (and friends) that buy for our kids that there is NO way we could just leave it up to everyone. It would be crazy!! Duplicates, returns, wrong sizes, inappropriate toys for their age..............it would be a lot of work on my end. The Wish List eliminates all of that.

Honestly, EVERYONE in my family appreciates the Wish List. They ask me for it!!! It makes their job easier too. I just remind them every year so they know if the list is on TRU or Amazon. Amazon is my favorite, the prices are better and they have SO much more selection.

My sister and cousin use the Wish Lists now too for their kids. I think they are great!!!

I actually would love it if people would do this!
I never know what to buy for kids and what they like, dislike, what they already have, etc
It would make life SO much easier!

I make wish list but i dont put them on the invite. If people ask me what to get DD i tell them whatever they want but if they want some ideas i have a wish list at say amazon and toysrus.

I feel this way i wont have to worry about giving them a specific gift/idea that might not be in there budget!

This, exactly. I am happy to give them the info if they ask, but I would never put it on the invite.

Re: Birthday Wish List

love wish lists. make life so much easier. and help me keep track of what DS has!

i sent one this year for ds's birthday. i gave them plenty of choices but i bet no one sticks to it. just a cultural thing. lol. i bet i'll get lots of clothes (which ds does not need)
people always seem to think they know better.

Re: Birthday Wish List

I made a very small wish list for DS#1's 1st bday. I had made it for my MIL to give her choices and put around 10 items on it. A few people asked what DS needed and if I had a registry (non-parents). I think they were glad I had one. We got everything on the list. We mostly received cash and gift cards from the other guests. 1 person bought us a toy gift and 1 person bought DS shoes and clothes.

We no longer do wish lists because most of our guests are classmates and neighbors. Our kids are pretty happy to receive any and all toys now.

I never know what to get for kids...we don't have any, but friends and family members do. I sometimes post on here asking what to get for a "___ year old" so I would love being able to access a wish list and know what the kid really is into!
