Biting? How do you stop it?
My little pit bulls..I mean...girls ( and no offense to the pit bulls, so dont start any drama pit bull owners ) bite each other ALL DAY.
Sydney takes it a step further and bites ANYTHING... When she is mad she will bite the rug, the dog, my leg, the highchair...you get the point..
And Chloe just started biting her...Sydney has biten her more times then I can count...
Its getting dangerous...
So what I'm doing.....Saying very firmly..NO and looking them in the eyes, " NO BITING" ..and taping their mouths. NOT nice! And kinda moving them to a different position/spot etc.
Well its not working
Will it end eventually? Any other tricks or they will outgrow it?
Ped says its a lack of language and normal. Which is cool...cept he doesnt need to jump up fast when miss Sydney comes gnarling his way

Re: Biting? How do you stop it?
Rylan was a biter...luckily it was pretty much only me. I tried everythingz. Calmly telling him no...yelling at him and then completely ignoring it. Ignoring it didn't last long because it hurt to much...lol. He really just stopped on his own one day and never did it again.
Xavier I call a rabid dog. He is s huge biter...it's horrible. As your trying to move him from the spot he's biting he's trying to latch on to any body part he can get. He bit Michelle's daughter Charlie at the last GTG and I'm petrified he'll bite someone this weekend at the GTG. I don't know what to do about it and this just reminded me I forgot to ask the ped about it yesterday.

How old are they? What worked best for my daughter when she was between 10 months and 15 mths was a calm "no biting" and then totally ignoring. But if they are older, i dont think that would work and time outs would probably be the way to go.

This is probably not going to be the popular reply and no flames please.....but the first time Jack bit me, I gave him a little bite back. I did it hard enough to make him wince, but not hard enough to leave a mark or anything like that. He looked at me shocked and started to cry, I said "See....that hurts!!! No more biting". He never did it again.

I've totally thought about doing this.

I have been thinking of trying this. My mom sweared that when I bit someone once, she bit me and I apparently never did it again.
I don't think DS has bit anyone except DH and I. At daycare he's usually great and when I told her to watch out for it she seemed surprised. But I guess he hasn't bitten anyone there.
He does it when he isn't getting his way or we try to move him or take something from him. And yeah, when I try to stop him on one side, he moves to the next spot.

Re: Biting? How do you stop it?
DS was a bitter. I even posted here on advice on what to do myself. He was comming home almost daily with incident reports of him biting other children at daycare. Like you I tried everything, nothing worked. Then one day it just stopped. No more biting. I truly think its a phase and probably has to do with teething as well. It will stop, I promise you, just keep doing what you have been doing and stay consistent.

I sooo hope its a phase... They are 14 months
Dawn- Sydneys a Rapid dog like Xavier! She will bite at the air as your trying to move her..
They havent biten anyone out yet, but its inevitable
Will try the time outs...
I dont think their is anything wrong at all with biting them back to get the ppoint across, I just dont know if I could do it. She might turn around and bite my leg off.

Re: Biting? How do you stop it?
he's not really a big biter, but he has tried to take a chunk of our me a few times, mostly when he is overly tired.
first I will say "oooucch" and make a big deal about the pain and set him down away from me. he gets a mommy "time out" and this is so traumatic it usually works though a few tinmes he's done it again right after. then, I "ping" his mouth, you know, that little flip to the lip, tell him NO BITING (in english and in spanish) and give him another round to mommy time out.
but like I said, it's really only when he's beyond tired and doesn't know what to do with himself.

Re: Biting? How do you stop it?
Biting was what started time outs in our house. They worked pretty well and he stopped after a while.
If they like to be together, put them into seperate rooms for the time outs, that might help.

{{{Ducking so my hair doesn't catch on fire while waiting for CPS to knock on my door}}} my mother did this when my brother bit me on my arse..out of nowhere, came up to me while i was lying on the floor and bit my butt cheek. I screamed holy hell.
my mother MADE me bite him back. He never bit again.
however, seems like you're kids are biting each other and its not phasing them. I think time outs now may be the way to go.
