Re: Black galaxy granite counters
My parents have this in their new house. Personally I hate it. Way to dark. They are changing it.

Re: Black galaxy granite counters
We have very dark granite, not sure exactly what color it is, but I hate it! It shows every watermark and smudge. It was in the kitchen when we bought the house.

We were going to get black granite when someone gave us the same advice.

Re: Black galaxy granite counters
my dad has it in his kitchen with cherry cabinets stained a ginger color to pick up on the gold.. it is pretty but it is just a little too dark for me and I feel that it really shows smudges..

We just got black galaxy from K and K in Bethpage. There is loads of gold speckles in it and it is maintenance free. They were excellent in every aspect from their customer service to their install. I recommend them 100% - Ask for George.

Re: Black galaxy granite counters
I'm not a fan - it kind of looks cheesy to me, JMO. We had absolute black in my co-op, which was really nice on the light wood cabinets and would be gorgeous on white / antique white cabinets.
The sparkles in the black galaxy is what makes it undesirable to me.

Re: Black galaxy granite counters
eventually we'd like to change our counters. we think some type of black granite would look the best with our oak cabinets.
i thought something black with amber or gold specks would compliment our cabinetry since our cabinets are kind of orangey. i'd love to change the cabinets but not in the budget - new counters would be pushing it my Dh likes a flat black and he isn't into anything that is high shine.
in a household that will hopefully have children in it in the near future i'd like something easy to keep clean - no streaking/fingerprints and i am afraid dark is no good for that.
i would be curious to see some pics of this black galaxy granite - for some reason i thought black galaxy was super shiny with white specks?

If your DH like a more flat black go see a sample of the absolute black granite in a honed finish ....I had a sample when we were doing our kitchen and I loved it ...my DH was not a fan. We have maple cabinets and would have looked great with them.

Re: Black galaxy granite counters
we don't have black -- it's a very dark slate gray. it's nice and striking looking -- it was here when we moved in because they had just done the entire kitchen, beautiful but it does show a lot. i'm constantly cleaning it with the special cleaner. i love how it shines when it is clean but it would not be what i would choose if i had picked the kitchen. i think it is lovely but not my first choice. that being said, i'm just so beyond thrilled we have a nice, updated kitchen at all so no real complaints here!

We have it. I picked it, I love it. I'm a bit of a neat freak so I'd be wiping the counters just as much, no matter what the color. I cook a lot and I have kids. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Black galaxy granite counters
I have black galaxy in my kitchen. I'm OCD about cleaning so for me it's not a PITA about fingerprints. I have two young boys so I'm constantly cleaning no matter what.
I don't find it cheesy at all. It looks much better than the laminate countertops that previous owner had. It's not my dream kitchen but will do for now. My house is paid-off so and we plan on completing changing the lay out of the kitchen in the future.
