Black tie ?
Yes. Black tie is tuxes and gowns. Black tie optional is dark suit for guys and cocktail dresses for women.

Re: Black tie ?
Don't make yourself crazy.
DH handed me an invite the night before a black tie wedding.
I ran around like a nut looking for a floor length dress and was angry that he didn't have a tuxedo.
I immediately learned upon arrival that black tie = same attire we would wear to a LI wedding.
Many ladies had on short cocktail dresses (even the token Snookies were there) and many of the guys had on suits.
I also mean no disrespect either, but I think this is also a Jewish tradition. This happened to be a Jewish wedding we were invited to so I think it is related to the fact that they wanted the guests to look appropriate and not sleazy.

Black tie ?
I've been to quite a few black tie weddings, an I'd say at least 90% of the women are in dressy cocktail dresses, myself included.

Re: Black tie ?
I've been to many black tie events and DH is always in a tux. Sometimes I do a floor length gown but I've also done dressy short cocktail dresses. You definitely don't have to go floor length if you don't want to. You will see a mix.

Re: Black tie ?
Honestly? WHO is the inviation from? Because people who have never attended a black tie event in their lives, get married and suddenly put 'black tie" on the invitation - because they want their guests to be dresses appropriately formal .........but not TRULY black tie formal.
formal attire for a TRUE black tie event is a tuxedo and gown .........there are very very VERY few true black tie events that the 'average' person hosts. Even our over the top long island weddings .........are formal events. Not black tie.
Unless your inviation came from old Gold Coast money .......or it's a business event, you're fine with whatever you'd normally wear for a formal wedding. Cocktail dress, gown, your choice.

Re: Black tie ?
When I have to go to black tie - which I have to often because I am involved in a lot of charities/fundraisers that are black tie - I just go to renttherunway.com and rent a formal dress for cheap because, especially with a floor length dress, I'll probably only wear it once and never again!
That's my best suggestion!

I have to agree. Rent the Runway is the best thing ever invented They have a black tie section as well.

Wow, really?
You could have made your point without adding the Jewish part.

Re: Black tie ?
You don't have to wear a full length gown, but I always think it's better to be over dressed than under dressed.
I also recommend Rent the Runway. It's a great way to wear a fabulous dress without going broke.

Not meaning to be offensive so don't misinterpret my post.
This was actually asked on a similar post awhile back.
I know how people are on here though, so you need to clarify everything,,,,,,
