Black Tie for women
Does "Black Tie" for women mean the dress has to be floor length? Would I be able to wear something knee length?

Re: Black Tie for women
I went to an event a few weeks ago at the waldorf where the invite said "black tie"
I was one of very few women to wear a floor length gown! I actually felt overdressed, I was surprised! Most people were wearing fancy cocktail dresses, knee length.

Re: Black Tie for women
I go to Black Tie events very often with my DH and most men do wear tuxes, but women can get away with a lot more.
I am going to one next week in a knee length gown, it is a maternity gown, but it isn't the first time I've worn this length to one of these events.
I think if you dress it up, you don't have to wear a floor length gown.

How funny - my event is at the Waldorf too!
Thanks for the responses!

Re: Black Tie for women
Just last night I went to a black tie wedding at a fancy venue in NYC. I would say 60% of the women wore floor length.

Re: Black Tie for women
I recently went to a black tie wedding as well and it was at least 50% knee length. I am 36 and the bride was 28. I think 40 and under wore more knee length. I definitely didn't feel under dressed.
