Black Tie Question
So typically, when I think black tie, I think tux and gown. We have a black tie wedding on a Sunday at 4:00 in Manhattan in a few weeks. I do plan on wearing a gown but do you think DH needs to rent a tux being that it's on a Sunday at 4:00? He has a couple of really nice suits but no tux.

Re: Black Tie Question
I think a dark suit with a white dress shirt would be appropriate.

This A lot of the tuxes today look like suits or very similiar anyway. I think he's fine in a black suit and white shirt. We had a black tie wedding and a few men wore black suits. Looked very nice

Black Tie Question
I think a dark suit is fine but DH says no, a tux is necessary unless they said black tie optional. He also owns tuxes though, so I’m sure that sways his decision.

Black Tie Question
Yes its fine - I don't think black tie should be held at 4pm on a Sunday, so I wouldnt spend the money on a tux if you didnt already have one.

ITA. The whole black tie things is so ridiculous and pretentious IMO anyway! You're not having a fancy NYC wedding on Sunday at 4pm, give me a break!

See that was always my impression too. It does NOT say Black Tie Optional, just Black Tie. My friend ran into the groom's mother and she said everyone is asking this question lol. She said a black suit is fine, but not gray or blue or any other color. So we are going with a black suit

I think it will be pretty fancy but I think we will go with the black suit. I feel like rentals are kinda gross anyway and never fit well. DH's suits are modern, skinny fit and tailored perfectly so I think his suit will look better on him than a tux rental anyway.
Thank you everyone for responding

Re: Black Tie Question
I think a a nice tailored black suit is fine and would probably look better than an ill fitting rental. I think I'd consider where it is though. If it's someplace super fancy I might consider the tux?
