Blanket in crib

DS has no bumper in his crib. I am too paranoid with suffocation.

He loves his blanket and for the longest time he was not allowed with it in the crib.

Now I let him use it but only for naps. He is almost 1 year.

When it is OK for children to have a blanket with them? I am talking for the night.

My kids have always had a blanket with them from day 1. At first it was a crotched one... I think he'll be fine.

Re: Blanket in crib

I tuck it below his arms. DH does not like using it at all, though.

DS is all over the place. I find it in the other side of his bed in the morning. I mean facing the other side of the crib.

Sometimes his head is ON the blanket.

My DS is all over the place but I usually find him nowhere near the blanket.

DS has had one since day one. He thinks its a toy, so when he wakes up he plays with it. But when he is sleeping he usually kicks it off

DD has used one from the beg. I use a knitted or crochet one though because she likes to put it by/over her head when shes falling asleep (i go and move it down once shes out) its the only way she can fall asleep

I'm one of the paranoid ones. Jack won't be getting a blanket for a long time - he is ALL over his crib.

Re: Blanket in crib

DD has had a blanket in her crib now for almost 2 months now...she is 4.5 months old. I was worried about suffocation to so we use a knitted blanket so if it where to cover her face there are plenty of holes to get air into....most of the time she kicks the blanket off anyway.

Re: Blanket in crib

I must be too layed back, DD has had at least 3 blankets and a ton of stuffed animals in her crib, PNP when she sleeps since shes been out of the cradle. I always check her and push to side when she is asleep but not always. never had a problem.

Re: Blanket in crib

i just gave my DD a blanket around 22 months old, but she's always had her winnie the pooh security blanket teether thing in there with her since she was about7-9 months old.

My youngest at 11 months only has her care bear in with her.

Re: Blanket in crib

by 1 year they are strong enough to lift their heads and smart enough to let you know if there is a problem so as long as it isn't a huge quilt or something i'd say its not a problem. DS has always had some type of blanket, mostly handmade crochet type, they have lots of holes for breathing.

Re: Blanket in crib

If I put a blanket anywhere near Gavin, his fingers immediately go in his mouth and he's out cold in an instant.....

I started giving him the blanket when he woke at 6AM to get him back to sleep for a bit.......now he gets it when he goes to sleep if it isn't too hot.

It's a crocheted blanket with holes, that's all I use....

I have put blankets on Kristina since day 1. She loves it, and even when she moves around.... she brings her blanket with her and never uncovers herself.

Caden has always had a blanket....I dont think he could go to sleep without out cozy"ing" with his blanket first...

He does kick it off from time to time but he'll cover himself with it too..

Re: Blanket in crib

Not until around 18 months. It's too easy for them to wrap the blanket around their throats. The crocheted ones are the worst, I think. They are stretchier and can catch on things easier than a regular blanket. We were too paranoid to even risk it until 18 months. We just dressed them appropriately with sleepsacks, etc, and kept their rooms at a good temp.
