Boiling Water
My dad swears that hot tea tastes better when the water is boiled in a kettle on the stove versus in the microwave...is this crazy???
He says he did a "taste test" but I think it's in his head. Anyone else??

I say the same thing. I think when you boil the water on the stove it reaches a rolling boil where as in the microwave if it truly boils it often spills over the mug. I think the bottom line is on the stove the water is boiling but in the microwave it just gets very hot but does not actually reach boiling.

ITA. Some teas-- I know white tea is one of them, you should actually steep it slightly less than boiling, because it's so delicate. But most teas really do taste better when they're steeped in boiling water.

Re: Boiling Water
It really does! For green tea for flavored tea, just let it steep in boiling water. For the chai variety, OMG!! The milk, water ratio and make it on the stove makes a huge difference. Its like "cooking" tea.. it is especially awesome on a cold day like today

I agree that it tastes better from a kettle.
And I'll go one further.. I use filtered water for tea and coffee. I really feel it has a different taste when it's tap.

Definitely filtered. The taste is much better than unfiltered from the tap. Our water is quite chlorinated where I am .
