Born Free Bottles....

Why in god's name do they have to be so darn expensive???? I went to Whole Foods today - the only place that seems to have them in stock, and they were $21.99 per 2 pack....

Grrrrrrrrrrrr.... Damn BPA Chat Icon

Re: Born Free Bottles....

I use Avents, so I have no experience with Born Free, but try looking for them online.

Me too. I was thinking the same thing. A few friends recommended Avent to me. But now I have to research BPA.

BPA - bisphenol-A. It's a chemical commonly found in hard plastics that when heated often may release into the fluid in the bottle. It's not a 100% thing, it's a potential hazard. Avent, Dr. Brown's, etc - no one has come out and said don't use them b/c of the BPA. The Born Free are just an extra precaution if you're going to be putting the bottles in the dishwasher on a regular basis or if for whatever reason you put it in the microwave (though do people still do that?).

Here's an article about BPA in bottles:

Post BPA Article

It's questionable whether or not it's really a problem, but myself, I plan to try Born Free. If my baby hates them or is gassy, I'll switch to Dr. Brown.

Dr. Brown is developing a line of BPA free plastic bottles and glass bottles by the way. They are supposed to be out next year. Avent has announced no such plans at this time as far as I've heard.

BRU carries Born Free, I think a bit cheaper than Whole Foods. No surprise--everything is expensive there.

The Drop-ins are BPA-free, but the regular bottles contain BPA.

Re: Born Free Bottles....

Here's another website that I found that I like that breaks down A LOT of the brands that are common:

BPA free baby bottles

ETA: I have Evenflo bottles, and also registered for the safe Gerber & Sassy bottles... but the Born Free bottles are supposed to have a venting system which is supposed to help prevent colic...

They are a little cheaper when you order them from Babies R' Us or directly from the Born Free website. They are actually $18.99 for a two pack of 5 oz bottles. You should check out the Born Free website because they have some deals when you buy a larger quantity of bottles. It is www.newbornfree.com.

I will try the same.
I read in an American Medical Journal about this BPA thing - and apparently there is some real evidence of problems in mice. Whats worth noting, is the risk is not just with babies, but with adults as well, and pregnant women. With those that have elevated levels of BPA.

The studies have only been done on mice though, and further studies are needed, but there are some warnings that are real medical facts (not all that I could understand).
