Re: Borrowing China

it depends on who and for what. my mom and her best friend both have antique china and glassware and for my engagement party at my mom's home, my mom's best friend brought some of her wine glasses and goldware to help out.

it was beautiful and i'm grateful for their generosity.

but it really depends on whether or not you can trust them with your china.

Wow--that was very gernous. I'd be so nervous with antiques. Mine isn't too expensive & always on sale at Macy's so, I wouldn't mind too much. At first , I was going to say, no b/c I haven't used it yet, but on 2nd thought, if I'm not using it, at least someone else will be!

NEVER!!!! And especially not if I haven't used it myself yet.

Also, how will you know which pieces are yours? I'm asusming they have the same set.

I don't like the idea AT ALL

Actually our china is very different. Our is Kate Spade's June Lane which silverish with a Dragonfly on it and her is traditional blue rimmed with a white center.

tell them to go to Linens and Things and pick up a party plate pack---12 dinner plates---nice looking china--for $19.95

(i would NEVER lend out my china to ANYONE)

that is what my mom did this year cause she hosted turkey day and a lot of ppl were coming and she didn't have enough matching plates---so she got those...worked out great!

Service for 12 separates

it was on sale when my mom bought the pack--but still $30 for nice plates for buffet style party is good..plus she could get matching salada plates and mugs too for $25 each

Wow, those are really nice

Re: Borrowing China

My grandmother gave me her china - although she still keeps it at her house because I don't have room yet.

It is over 50 years old, was shipped here from Germany and has tremendous sentimental value to me. In a nutshell, NO WAY!!!!!!!!!

If it was easily replaceable (china currently sold in stores), I would gladly lend it to them.

If it was an antique set or hard to replace the pieces, then I would be less inclined.

I agree - although I would have liked to have used it first before I lent it to someone.

Re: Borrowing China

As long as it is still in stores for purchase, I would not have an issue with it. If anything happens to a piece, I am sure the person would be more then happy to replace it.

Re: Borrowing China

No I wouldn't - I would be honest and tell them I haven't even opened the boxes yet.

Goodness forbid something got broken...
