Did you get one?
Is it really necessary?

Re: Bottle Sterilizer- Yay or Nay
I got a steam sterilizer. I liked the idea of having something that ONLY the baby's bottles and feeding stuff would go in. It is completely not a necessity, and as a PP said you can boil them and get the same result.

Re: Bottle Sterilizer- Yay or Nay
I sterilized in a bot of boiling water...I EBF, so I didn't need bottles for a while and even then, didn't use many...by the time I was using bottles often, I didn't even sterilize them anymore unless they were new...I think a sterilizer would have been a waste for my situation, but if you are bottle feeding or want to sterilize each time, it might be worth it for you.

Re: Bottle Sterilizer- Yay or Nay
I really want to breast feed, but sometimes I'm sure I will need bottles....
In that case, I figured I didn't need the sterilizer....
I was also told you only need it for the first few months...Can you tell I'm new to this? lol...this is my first baby?

Re: Bottle Sterilizer- Yay or Nay
My DD's ped told me not to even bother.
He told me sterilize the first time. Every time thereafter just wash in hot water. He also told me that once you take the bottle/nipple/collar out of the boiling water or sterilizer that the sterility is no longer there b/c there is nothing protecting the bottle from the air.
Think about when you go to the dentist and they open the tools from the steri-bags.... THOSE are sterile - bottles aren't - they are exposed to the air directly.
Save your money for things really necessary, IMO.

Re: Bottle Sterilizer- Yay or Nay
I have the microwave sterilizer and we only used it for a few weeks. We read in a few books that after a month you don't need to sterilize anything for the baby........warm soapy water is fine so the sterilizer went away.

Re: Bottle Sterilizer- Yay or Nay
Not necessary. Medela makes microwave sterilizer bags which I like much better! I use them for pacifiers, nipples, bottle parts, etc. And about once a week I boil a big old pot of water for bottles.

This is what we do, we have a dedicated pot for DS bottle parts and a dedicated bowl to pre soak them in. So nothing else goes in these except for DS's bottles/toys.
I think a sterlizer is just unnecessary

Re: Bottle Sterilizer- Yay or Nay
I had one and never used it once. Same with the wipe warmer and the bottle warmer. I felt like I didn't want him used to things warm because what will you do when you're out and about, you know?

Re: Bottle Sterilizer- Yay or Nay
I didn't register for one and never felt the need to get one. I boiled the bottles and nipples before I used them the first time and then put them in the dishwasher after that.

Re: Bottle Sterilizer- Yay or Nay
i would boil water and put the bottle in for the first time but it is no necessary to sterilize the bottles every time... not to mention that i recieved a information packet from my pediatricians office which says that there is no need to sterilize you just need to clean with soap and water

This is what we did with DD #1. We just put up a big pot of water nightly. After a few weeks, it became such routine....we did it for the whole time DD was on bottles...every night. We will do this again with DC #2.

Re: Bottle Sterilizer- Yay or Nay
Totally not necessary IMO. Do the boiling water in a pot. Or if you want to cut on time, get the microwaveable sterilizer bags. They are great!

Exactly how do you sterilize with the pot of boiling water?
I would like to do this...
Also, did you use glass or plastic bottles?

Re: Bottle Sterilizer- Yay or Nay
YAY! YAY!! YAY!!! I used the bottle steralizer every single week. I love it and can't see how anyoe could live without one.
We used the steralizer up until our DD was completely off bottles. It takes 15 minutes...wash the bottles as you use are finished with them, put them in the steralizer, wait until it is filled up and add water, press the button and DONE! Easy! I have the First Years one.
