Bottles and BPA
I have been completely stressed out about this BPA issue all weekend. I have been using Avent for the past 3 months...washing and sterilizing everyday. Now I find out that this could have caused BPA to leach out. I am completely freaked out and sick over this. I called AVent and they said that they don't know if the bottles leach. How can they still sell them. Sorry if I sound frantic but I am soo worried.. ETA..I have switched to the Avent drop-ins but what if he was exposed to too much BPA already?? TIA I feel like once we can relax about one thing..something else pops up

Re: Did I poison my baby?
No, you didn't poison the baby. If you're uncomfortable switch to glass bottles, BornFree bottles or Playtex Drop-Ins, all of which are BPA free.

if your bfing, dont use glass bottles, i read that the white blood cells stick to the glass and then the baby doesnt get them.

Re: Did I poison my baby?
from what I understand the only "safe" bottles are drop-ins, glass or born free
I wish I knew this a few months ago

Born Free isn't the only company that makes bottles that are BPA free. Bottles made by both Medela and Adiri are free if it also. (I think there are some others, but I'm not sure who makes them.)

Right. We use Medela bottles for this reason (even though they are $18 for 4 bottles!)...but then again we run them in the dishwasher to clean/sterilize them, and that's not recommended I don't think.

Re: Did I poison my baby?
I switched to Adiri bottles and love them. Easy to clean and they truly mimic breastfeeding (I swap between pumping and BFing because I work.) I also use Playtex drop-ins as a back-up, they are cheaper and I bought a few when quit using Avent.

Every since I saw something on TV, I switch to the glass bottles by Evenflo. They are great.

First of all
DS is 13 months old. I mostly BF for the first 9 months, but any bottle he has ever taken has been Dr. Brown's. They are supposedly "on the list". There is absolutely no proof about which bottles are "bad" or "good".

I did too. It ended up being much better for DS' gas issue.

honestly...not sleeping for days over this is a bigger issue in that. Yes we are all scared but they would NOT be selling them still if they are doing any proven harm to your child. That should ease your mind.
Your baby can get hurt in a million others ways that you cannot prevent.
You sound like a good mom.
DO NOT be so hard on yourself and realize you cannot change the past. What has happened , has happened and your ruining the here and now by wondering/worrying about what cannot be changed.

Re: Did I poison my baby?
you need to relax i gave my daughter advent bottles for 18 months before this report came out so how do you think i feel. i didnt lose sleep over it. i was brought up on plastic bottles. there is tons of stuff you use everyday that uses plastic too. tupperware, plastic containers your food is in. the report said that if the contents were heated at a very high temperate then there is a chance that it can leak in. i heated my daughters milk in the micro to take the chill out and then poured it into the bottle so we did not run a risk. your getting yourself worked up for no reason. there is no way to know if it leaks or not. switch to glass if you feel safer. there are going to be alot more bigger issues you are going to deal with when you have a child so i hope that you learn not to freak out about everything. its not easy being parent but to make yourself sick over something you don't know happened or not is plain dumb. and to post a topic about did i poison my baby is scary.

This is an inconclusive study. If they posed an immediate problem, they would have recalled them.
We still use Avent, VentAires and the drop ins when we are out.
But I think you are a mess over nothing at this point, I mean, you can worry all day long about things that COULD happen

Re: Did I poison my baby?
since when is giving my opinion not using tact. she posts : did i poison my baby? puts fear in other mothers about the bottles and wants an answer about if she should be worried. i post that i didnt know about the study till way after my daughter is off bottles and realistically stated that there is tons of crap out there that can do the same thing. im blunt and to the point and if people dont like it well then im sorry if they are offended. looks like the same clan of girls are trying to gang up again and cause drama on someone elses thread and one of them is stephanief. good job steph taking away from the topic.

Thanks for your response but first of all this is my second child so I am aware of how "difficult" it is to be a parent..The fact is that we do not know how harmful BPA is to infants..that is what is scaring me.. I'm sure you were nervous about your daughter when you found out but how would you have felt if your concerns about this (or anything else for that matter) were completely dismissed the way you dismissed mine?
