Boxers
I would love any info anyone has about owning a boxer. DH and I are planning on getting a boxer puppy. I have been doing a lot of research online and it seems like a great dog. DH grew up with a dog all of his live, but I didnt...so I dont know much! Please any info on this breed would be great!!!
TIA!!!

Re: Boxers
i have had manyyyy dogs over the years... and a few of them have been boxers and pitbuls....
these type of dogs always get a bad rep... but mine have always been the most loving and loyal dogs ive owned...
im a strong believer that its all in the way they are raised/treated...

Re: Boxers
I have no experience with them personally but had researched them a little when we were considering dogs. Two things that stick out in my mind that I read were their higher incidence of cancer than other breeds and their energy/exercise requirements. They were right in line with a Lab, and all dogs are different, but they were just things we wanted to be prepared for.
Good luck in your search, and I hope you find a dog that fits well into your family. Don't forget about breed-specific rescues that can help you find that great dog.

Re: Boxers
I have a 1.5 year old male Boxer. He is a great dog!!! He is super friendly and playful and is great with my niece and nephews. The breed is known to be great with children and he could not hurt a fly... he does not have 1 aggressive bone in his body. I always loved the look of Boxers... they are beautiful dogs!!
What I didn't realize... which was just lack of research on my part is that Boxers are RIDICULOUSLY hyper/energetic and their puppy stage lasts well into their 3rd year of life. Mine is still in his puppy stage and I'm not gonna lie, it gets very frustrating at times. He just never stops running around!! It's very important to exercise them A LOT bc their energy level is just out of this world.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to FM me!!

YES THEY ARE! After my Tyson drinks water... he leaves a nice trail out of my kitchen.

Re: Boxers
We have a boxer and my parents have a boxer. Our boxer is going to be 3 this year and she is full of energy, loves people, especially children, loves other dogs, has to be by our side and in our business no matter where we are in the house and is pretty much a 60 pound lap dog...All she wants is love and to snuggle with anyone who will give her the attention. My parents dog is the same way! Boxers are my favorite breed and we'll never have another kind of dog.

Re: Boxers
HIGH energy and very needy of attention. Very very smart and needs to be kept busy so they don't get into trouble (at least in my experience).

Re: Boxers
Wow, I disagree with quite a few opinions on this thread.
Boxers are no where near classified close to a Pit Bull Terrier. They are extremely loveable and loyal and are KNOWN to be amazing with kids. Yes, they do have a shorter life span, but a lot of pure breds do. I've known two boxers to pass 10 years of age. I've had and known quite a few boxers and none had a drooling issue. Never had a problem with the jumping issue either, which IMO is a training issue, not a breed issue. I noticed a few people with the males saying about the energy level and can't comment since I've only had females who IMO are a calmer sex anyway (even in people) lol.
When I have the home and space, I will be getting another boxer.
