Boy Mommies - Potty Training
I'm really kind of surprised but Tommy will be 2 in August and I think he is almost ready to train! He gets very upset when he has a poopy diaper and he always tells me "Mama, I go poo poo" when he poops. Also, not every night, but many nights, his diaper is dry when he gets up in the morning. So, my questions are:
1) what's the best potty to get? 2) how old was your son when he was trained? 3) did your DH help you? (haha!)

We got THIS SEAT it has a higher "splash guard"
DS was fully trained 6 weeks before he turned 3

Re: Boy Mommies - Potty Training
DS took interest in the potty at 19 months. He now tells us pee pee/poo poo & will pull down is pants and run to the bathroom. He's inconsistent though (he turned 2 last week). I plan on training him in June when I'm home from school.
We just use the potty ring on the big potty (less mess to clean). It has the guard up front.
He now asks for pull ups and gets mad if we put a diaper on him.
DH is not very involved w/ his potty training.

Re: Boy Mommies - Potty Training
I'm planning on working on it this weekend. I think DS and Mommy are gonna take a trip to the store to by a potty together (cars one) and a sippy (for tons of water). Head home and give it a shot..Fingers crossed!!!

Re: Boy Mommies - Potty Training
DS is 22 months and we are just starting the process. He has shown no interest in the little potty, but will sit on a potty seat on the toilet. It's touch and go - one day he woke with a dry diaper and made it all the way to 3 p.m telling me everytime, then nothing after that. Next day, he never told us in the morning, but when DH had him that night, he told him every time and even pooped on the potty. Today, no potty all morning, we go to the Mall, he tells me and goes at the mall, dry diaper for the rest of the day.... DH is very involved as I am working nights this week. We use M&M's as a motivator.
ETA: everything I've read says pull-ups are the worst idea, they act like diapers. So I went today and bought training pants and waterproof covers...we shall see how that goes

Re: Boy Mommies - Potty Training
we used a potty seat cover that goes right on the toilet. using a potty is just another step to getting them on the big toilet.
AJ was trained at 3 years and 8 months (he is also autistic, so it took longer)
DH always helps out. not sure why one wouldnt....
also if you feel he is ready, skip the pull ups as a PP said, they act as a diaper.

Where did you get training pants with a waterproof cover? My Mom wants me to try that but, I couldn't find them in a store.

K-Mart or Walmart - you have to buy them seperate and the only training pants with padding are Gerber, but so are the waterproof covers...they should be in the baby/layette section.

DS showed signs way before two...did well for a few weeks...now at 30 months he is refusing to even try the potty without screaming. he tells me his pee pee is either sleeping or it's broken

1) what's the best potty to get?
I think it depends on your child. DS started with the potty ring that goes on the toilet and then quickly transitioned to the regular toilet. We never use the potty ring. We do use a potty upstairs in his room at night b/c we have no toilet upstairs.
2) how old was your son when he was trained? He trained at 29 months.
3) did your DH help you? (haha!)
He continued to do whatever I did. My DH is AWESOME with follow through and is a huge participant with my son. Everything was 50/50 once I told him what we were doing and showed him!

Re: Boy Mommies - Potty Training
Landon used the potty inconsistently since about 18 months. And only became fully trained recently (overnight as well)... about a month before turning 3. It was easier for me having him in diapers with newborn twins, so I never pushed it. He went on the potty when he wanted to and went in a diaper when we wanted to. One day he asked to wear underwear and that was it. Fully trained! We had that little fisher price musical potty when he was younger and now use rings for the toilet. DH didn't really help bc like I said we never really "trained" him. He was using the potty on and off for over a year and one day he decided he wanted to wear underwear. DH does help take him to the bathroom when he asks to go.
