I have a q re: potty training for BTDT mommies - starting earlier vs. starting later?
What I'm wondering is if the time it takes to potty train completely is quicker if you wait to DC is older?
Amongst my friends and family members there seems to be a big difference - some say potty training took months and others say it took a week. Those that say it took months usually started b/f 2 but, this could be a coincidence.
DS is almost 22 months and I would say for the past month he is definitely completely ready to be potty trained - all the signs I have waited for he has now - lol BUT, that said, i don't want this to be a long drawn out process if it doesn't have to be KWIM? I don't want to spend a month of him just hanging out on the toilet followed my another month of him just peeing once and a while etc. etc. etc. if i don't have to - I'd rather wait unti lhe is over 2 and do it in a week If that is even possible
TIA!

I think it depends on the child. Physically, my DS was ready about nine-ten months before he actually potty trained. We tried - and he refused. He'd go once and we'd put underwear on him and explain that he had to use the potty now, and he would just go on the floor and think nothing of it. We finally gave up and figured we ask him a couple times per day and not make a big deal out of it. One day, he just woke up, said he wanted to use the potty, and he's been trained since - day, night, naps, pee, poop - everything. No accidents, no whining, no power struggles or changing sheets. It was so easy when we waited. Of course, he was almost 3 1/2 by this time but it was certainly easier than the first few times we tried. If your DC seems ready, give it a try and see how it goes.

Totally depends on the child. If you thin khe is ready go for it. I tried with my DD when she was 18 months just to introdiuce it to her. She totally knew to sit and pee on it and she did really good but it was more of a game ot her and she was still immature yet. When she was 23 months I gave it another try and BAM! Mission accomplished in one week. Give it a try. If you feel he is playing more than being serious then stop and do it in a few months.

Re: I have a q re: potty training for BTDT mommies - starting earlier vs. starting later?
I read somewhere that 27 months was the magic time to do it. I wasn't in a rush with a new baby at home so we waited until then. Kaitee was able to undress at 11 months old and could completely dress herself (even socks and shoes) by 18 months old. So I am sure we could have tried sooner but I didn't want to stress about it. We started at 27 months old and she was day trained in only 3 days with 3 accidents. We went straight to the regular potty and we put a sticker chart right next to the potty, worked like a charm. She was a heavy pee-er at night so I thought she wouldn't be night trained until well after 3. But 2 weeks ago (she was 34 months old) I realized she was waking up dry, so she is now fully potty trained with no stress on us. She pretty much did it all on her own. We now have a 20 month old and we aren't in a rush with her either, we hope(God willing) that she will be as easy as her older sister.
