Breaking bad sleep habits

Dd just turned 4 months yesterday and in the last week we've really been struggling to get her to sleep. We broke all the rules early on. She goes to bed around 11pm and only falls asleep if I lay down with her and nurse. Once she's asleep I then transfer her to the Nap Nanny which we kept in our room. We finally have the crib set up and the last few nights have been awful. I tried to nurse her to sleep and then transfer her to the crib or even the pnp since that is also flat but she wakes up and has a fit every time. I don't know if I should get her used to the crib first and then sleep train or if I should do it all at once. The problem is we live in a small apartment below our landlords so if I let her cio no one will sleep. I also think 4 months is a bit young to cio.

Here's the icing on the cake... on Sunday she'll be spending the night at my parents' house, away from me at night for the first time.

What do I do?! I'm so stressed out and worried.

Have you tried putting a rolled up towel under the mattress so it's on an incline? Maybe that will help her transition. Also, are you swaddling her?

What about starting with naps in the crib? That worked for me and would help with your problem of keeping everyone up at night. I started with one nap a day. At first I would put her in the crib and stay in the room tidying up, folding laundry, etc. This helped keep DD calm and if she did get upset I would rub her tummy and tell her she was okay. I just did whatever worked at the time and it got easier with time. Now she goes in the crib no problem.

This is what we did for DS when we transitioned from the rock n play to the crib. We did have to do CIO when he turned 1 (he would sleep in the crib, but only after falling asleep on us). We're in an apartment too. I waited until a week my landlords went on vacation.
