breaking the swaddle habit help!
DD is 4 mths and can break out of both the swaddle me and the miracle blanket. Once she's out she's awake. She can't seem to get to sleep without it. She's started rolling onto her belly too so I don't want her to break out, roll over, and then get smothered by the MB! Please give me some advice on helping DD get used to sleeping without being swaddled!

Re: breaking the swaddle habit help!
i did this and it worked great... try swaddling her from the waist down for a couple of night with just her arms free. The first night might be rough but im telling you this worked for me. Then once she gets used to that put her in a sleep sak.

Re: breaking the swaddle habit help!
I just did it cold turkey last night using just a sleep sack and DD slept through the night. I kept the bedtime routine exactly the same but just replaced the MB with the sleep sack. I was really afraid she would have a hard time falling asleep and she fell asleep last night and tonight in 5 min. Give it a shot. You could always swaddle with arm(s) out if it doesn't work.

Ok that's great news. But how do you swaddle with arms out using the MB?

just put it up to your DC's armpits instead of higher up like you would if the arms were in. wrap the arm flaps across the front and tuck around the back. then wrap the whole thing around with arms out. kinda hard to explain...

Re: breaking the swaddle habit help!
Been there I was getting up 4-5 times a night because he would cry when he got out of it.
I started with swaddling with his arms out for naps. Then, after a couple of days I swaddled him with his arms out at night. Next I wouldn't swaddle at all for naps but still swaddled up to his armpits at night. Then, no swaddle at all. I think the whole process took about a week.
I got lucky because the weather was getting warmer and I could put him in a heavy sleeper and he was warm enough. He never really got used to the sleep sack.

Re: breaking the swaddle habit help!
With both DD and DS I just went cold turkey from MB to sleepsack.
DD slept with MB until she was 6 months and DS slept with MB until he was 4 weeks
DD took a few nights to sleep soundly and DS slept fine the first night without it.
