Definitely the Spectra. I used Medela with my other 2 kids (before Spectra existed), and hands-down I'm making more milk with it. It's a hospital grade pump with a closed system.

Re: Breast Pump Advice Needed
I've only has medela and thought it was just ok. From what I've heard that's a pretty decent pump. Since many others are suggesting Spectra I would assume that is better.

I've used both and the Spectra is so much more gentle and it's hospital grade & a closed system so that's a plus.
I'd say the only negative is that it's harder to find extra parts for it.

All of this. First dd I used medela and never had a great supply. Now with dd2 I'm using the spectra and it's amazing. I only double pump 10 minutes and get a ton of milk.
We even bought a separate deep freezer that is now stocked with about 300 bags of milk!

I have the Spectra and yes its expensive to order extra parts. Also depends on how often & where you'll be pumping. The Spectra doesnt have a bag etc. so if you're commuting everyday on the train for example it might be annoying whereas the Medela come in the bag.

Re: Breast Pump Advice Needed
My insurance only covered the Ameda & Medela.
I really wanted the Medela just based off recommendations, but the medical supplies company I had to get it from, were out of stock, so I ended up getting the Ameda.
I really have no complaints, it did the job and very easy to clean.
I loved the medical grade one they let me use in the hospital, it was strong! That was medela, but again medical grade, not a home based pump. I dont think you can get those through insurance :)

The medela that comes with the bag depends on insurance. Mine didn't offer the one in the bag. I just used a tote to carry everything.
Also there is a way to hack the medela parts so they can be used on the spectra - pretty sure it's on youtube.

Just an FYI- but you can pump directly into Avent classic bottles with the Spectra pump. Avent classic bottles and nipples are interchangeable with the Spectra bottles and nipples.
