breastfeeding moms who pump too!
I just got the medela hands free pump..Its supposed to be the best one out there????? I dont feel I am empty after 30min of pumping? there is still plenty of milk in my breast but the pump wont express it? is this happening to anyone else?? and I am only getting like 3 1/2 ounces?? dd should be up to 5oz by now she is 8wks old? any input is so appreciated..

Pumping is not as efficient as what a baby can suck. I found that if I pumped more during the day than necessary that I could build a freezer stash. It depends on when you can pump and your child's schedule.
Many find success by pumping before the first morning feeding. (And yes, there will be plenty of milk left for the baby after you pump.) I pumped at night, right before I went to bed. If I happened to wake in the middle of the night, I pumped. No, it didn't increase my supply at night. It was only about 2 times per week.
Or if your baby is like mine and only eats one side per feeding, I would feed him on one side and pump the other side.
It is intimidating to try to fill those big bottles or freezer bags, but at 8 weeks you are doing great!

I actually just pumped and i am feeding my dd from my breast!! There is plenty of milk!!!!why wont the pump get it.. If I expess it with my fingers its shooting out all over??? I really think these pumps all suck.. This is so frustrating!!

I have a VERY LARGE chest and this was the ONLY way I got milk when pumping.. I would pump one boob at a time. HOld the pump on the boob with one hand and press down on the boob with the other...

Ok ignore my last stupid comment  I am going to try this.. I can see this is a BIG boob problem.. My boobs are tremendous!!

that is called manually expressing BM... which can be done and works for a lot of women.. its easier if you do it into a bowl. I think Kelly mom has info on how to manually express. Also you can do searches for videos on this..

Yeah I think the pumps have a harder time getting a lot of the milk out of women with larger chests.. the suction isn't strong enough.. I'm a freakin "I"

Chest compressions really help to get the hind milk (thicker milk) out!

Try to increase the number on the pump. I started at like 5 but now I use 8.
I also squeeze my boobs while pumping to try to get every last drop out.
