Bringing a 4 month yr to the beach ?'s

Hi Ladies,

I need advice and suggestions.

First, would you bring a 4 month old to the beach? Are they old enough?

I really want to go and have been holding out.

Second, what do I bring for DS? A tent? An umbrella?

My sister is going to go with me on Monday if it is nice out, so I will have some help.

That's the best age to enjoy the beach with a baby because they're still not mobile. Go! Definitely get something that you can keep him under like a tent or something. Lots of sunscreen, too.

Rachel,

Do you know if there is anything specially made for this? At BRU or something?

My ped says no sunscreen til 6 months - I would get protective clothing and maybe one of those tent cabana things?

If you want to do sunscreen, I believe the recommended for this age is Blue Lizard.

Re: Bringing a 4 month yr to the beach ?'s

I bought a tent last year and tried to use it at the pool when Emma was a baby. It didn't work out because it got wayyyy too hot in the tent.

This year I bought a canopy type tent. It blows away so that doesn't work for us.

I think an umbrella would be fine. I usually bring the stroller (pull it backwards in the sand), park it under the umbrella when she's ready to nap and she gets the breeze without the sun.

Definitely bring a stroller. DD napped in hers and also was able to sit up and play while I could get some sun. We put her under an umbrella. I had a tent too but was afraid it would get too hot.

If you decide to go, go early in the day. We took DS to the beach later in the afternoon once, and when we hit the hot sand, he hated it.

Honestly - I wouldn't.

I am very fair - and sometimes get a slight burn through the umbrella. I would imagine a baby is even more sensitive.

Maybe it would be ok to go towards the end of the day when the sun is going down.

Use sunscreen anyway. Sunscreen is better than none at ANY ageChat Icon

Oh and BBB has a "pod" type thing for babies that age that we loved!

I brought dd to camp out at Montauk when she was 8 weeks. We had one of those kiddie cabanas (they're supposed to have 50 spf). It was great- she spent the day sleeping in that.

I took DD to the beach at that age. I was told no sunscreen until 6 months, so I put her in a tent.

I would be careful ...
its very hot, and at that age babies cannot sweat so they can easily overheat...
spitting up is a sign heat exaustion-
even tho the heat may be tolerable for us, it could be too much for them!
