Bronchitis/Antibiotic Question- To Fill or Not to Fill?
So my girls have had nasty coughs and colds for about 2 weeks now. Last Wednesday DH took them to the dr, who tells him that my youngest, Julie (18 months) sounds kind of wheezy and to come back in a few days if we don't see an improvement. DH kind of bullies the dr into writing the script for the antibiotic on the spot and that we would fill it if necessary to save us coming back and another copay (I know, I know, he's a PITA... what can I do? Can't live with him, can't kill him, as my mom says ). Anyway, it's now 5 days later. Her chest still sounds the same... wheezy and coughing, and coughing really bad at night, to the point that we're waking her up 4-5 times. But, no fever, and still playing, eating, etc.
So, if you've gotten this far, I thank you. What would you do? Fill the script? Let it go a few more days? Bring her back without DH (AKA guy who knows better than every doctor on the planet)? To complicate it a litle more, the script is for Omnicef, which gives her HORRIFIC diarrhea to the point that she lost 2 pounds the last time she was on it, so I hesitate even a little more because of that.
TIA if you've made it this far!!!!

Re: Bronchitis/Antibiotic Question- To Fill or Not to Fill?
DS is 3 and got a bad cough that lasted about 2 weeks. We took him to the doctor and he wasnt sure he heard alot in DS' lungs but prescribed the liquid version of a Z-Pack and within 2 days, DS' cough was so much better. DS was acting totally fine too. I'm not a huge fan of medicating if it isnt necessary but sometimes the body needs a little help curing itself right? I would fill it.

This is exactly what happened with my 22 month old-- same thing, got the liquid Zithromax, and she's better already after 2 days (and this cough has lasted for weeks).

Re: Bronchitis/Antibiotic Question- To Fill or Not to Fill?
I would totally do what your hubby did
Now would I fill it? Not right away, I'd call up and give a nurse the scenario. Every place I've ever been has great nurses who will give me honest answers.
However.....
Given that this one gives her the runs, I'd probably take her in and ask for a different drug. AJ's been on 6 so far and only one has negatively affected her. Shame on mommy btw for not remembering which one it was.
