BRU Experience this afternoon Buyer Beware

We went to BRU this afternoon intending to purchase DD a convertible car seat because they sent us a 20% off coupon and a $20 coupon good for a purchase of $100 or more on a car seat. I also had a $5 coupon from their rewards program. Since DD will eventually need a convertible car seat and they don't always have a 20% off coupon I figured now would be a good time to get the Britax. Well we went to check out and thank goodness I checked the receipt. Instead of giving me 20% off of the $300 car seat, they applied the 20% off on a $6 book!!!! In order to get both the 20% off and the $20 off of the car seat it had to be a separate purchase. I made them re-do it for me. By looking at the receipt I saved $88. Had I not done so and just assumed that the coupons were correctly applied I would have been out over $65. So in case anyone is in the market for a car seat and intending to use both coupons just make sure that they ONLY purchase a car seat during the transaction otherwise their computers are not set up to take the 20% off of the largest price item.

How annoying! Good thing you checked . That is why I prefer BBB over BRU, the coupons always apply to the highest priced items first!

I had the same thing happen when I bought our swing. We had a 20% off coupon and the promo with the swing gave us a free pack of diapers. I had GCs from my shower and calculated exactly what it should have been. They took the coupon off of the free diapers which was ridiculous. When the cashier told me the total, I laughed and told her to get a manager because why would I want 20% off a free item? They complained but did it. This also is precisely why if I have to spend my own money, I go to BBB.

Yup, that sounds about right for BRU!
The one by me in Brooklyn is terrible, but I thought those out by you guys were better - I'm glad you caught it!
I like BBB so much better, but unfortunately BRU is sooo much closer to us, and now the DD is here, we tend to buy ore at BRU because of convenience. I'd go to target over BRU any day if I know they have the same items.

I ALWAYS check my receipts before I leave any store. Some grocery stores are famous for not honoring the sale price on items or ring up a different price from what is on the shelf. It happened way too many times where I was home reviewing the receipts and noticed I was charged regular price for an item. I've noticed that Target in Bethpage does this a lot. And you have to double check the coupons are used too. A couple of times at Target they've only applied the Target coupon for an item but not the manufacture coupon.

I have been emailing them for an answer for two weeks.

yep..i've learned to ask before the cashier starts if i can use whatever coupon on mylargest item. if i have other coupons and they need to do them in separate orders, fine by me.

good for your looking and making them redo it!
