BTDT - a few registry questions
hello ladies i have been using the baby bargains book, and the BRU registry checklist, but i have a couple of questions for BTDT moms. i know with some things, you have to really let the baby decide what they like - like bottles & pacifiers. so the BRU registry checklist suggests : 6-10 4/5 oz bottles & 8-10 8//11 oz bottles... but how many should i really registry for to start with? and how many different brands should i try out?
also, should i really register for formula? i would assume no, bc i don't know what kind the hospital is going to send me home with...
i am CLUELESS when it comes to diapers. how many does a baby go through a day, on average? i have no idea how many newborn sizes i should be getting, versus size 1 etc.
i am not planning on nursing - so do i need a bobby pillow? what else would i need for "feeding" other than bibs, burping cloths, bottles, nipples etc?
TIA!!

Re: BTDT - a few registry questions
Don't register for formula. If your baby can't use it, you're stuck with it. I watched my college roommate give away a bunch of cans of formula that her baby w/reflux couldn't tolerate and she couldn't return.
DD went through 8-10 diapers a day in the beginning, but I EBF. I don't think FF babies poop quite as often. I'd register for a box of nb size and a box of 1's. STEAL DIAPERS FROM THE HOSPITAL!!
If you're not BFing a Boppy is a waste IMO. You could technically use it to prop them up, but there are lots of other ways to do that.
Register for little bowls and spoons. If you're planning on making baby food, register for BPA-free storage containers. Snack holders are great too. Oh, and add a bungee cord that attaches to a bottle and a stroller or high chair. It's a HUGE help when you're taking the baby out to dinner or a walk and they've learned to throw their bottle.

Re: BTDT - a few registry questions
In terms of bottles, you can register for the starter kits for a few brands you like. I did that, although I only picked one brand (avent). I also heard great things about Born Free.
I personally didnt register for diapers, I used gift cards to get by in the beginning. Do NOT register /buy too many newborn size. My DS used them for a week. Just buy one small pack (40). I swear by Pampers Swaddlers, they are the only ones DS didn't poop and pee through.
I still breast feed and supplement with formula. I automatically went with Gentlease, only bc DH and I both have reflux and I just assumed my son would also lol.
Good luck!!!

Re: BTDT - a few registry questions
I wouldn't register for formula. You never know which type your LO will end up using. I didn't register for diapers but you definitely can if you want to. I agree with the PP, just get a small package of newborn diapers because if you have a big baby (like I did), you won't need them for long. You can definitely register for size 1 diapers but don't go crazy. You will get diapers at the hospital and people may give you diapers at your shower if you're having one.
For bottles, I would register for a small set of 4oz bottles of the brand you want to try. Again, I wouldn't go crazy because if your LO doesn't like the bottles you get then you will have to buy a different brand anyway. Good luck and have fun registering!
ETA: You may still want the boppy even though you're not nursing. When DH gives DS a bottle, he loves using the boppy. It saves you some arm strength

I love the boppy even though I don't nurse. It's sad but as he gets older I use it to pose him for pictures. He loves to lay on it. I also love Target diapers. Im a nanny and have used them on all the kids I sit for. Don't register for formula not necessary.

Re: BTDT - a few registry questions
bottles - personally, i would only get maybe 4 4oz since they take more than 4 oz pretty quickly. Yes, the bigger ones take up more room in the diaper bag but you can always use 9oz bottles for only 4oz. I would get 4 4oz and 8 9oz.
dont register for formula. You never know what will work best for your child until he/she is here.
diapers - average 8-10 when they are newborns. I would get a box of newborns and then register for 2-3 boxes of size 1 and size 2. That should hold you over for a while.
i FF and the boppy pillow was great just for support when holding the baby, a must have. It was also great for older relatives to hold the baby, extra support under tired arms. bibs, burp clothes and you should be good to go!

Re: BTDT - a few registry questions
Hi!!! For bottles, I think it depends on how often you will wash them and etc. I think you can get away with 4-4oz and about 6- 8oz bottles. I loved the Dr. Browns which are more expensive but really helped with minimizing the gas.
I wouldnt register for formula. You never know what kind will work for your baby. You can always use gift cards for that later on.
I had a different experience ith diapers. Definitely take some from the hospital. DS was 7lbs and 20inches and wore newborn diapers for a while ( and newborn clothes for 6 weeks). I would register for a big box of newborn and a big box of size 1.
Honestly, you don't need the boppy but it's nice to have. Like others said, you can use it to prop the baby upon. Also, I would definitely get some burp clothes, I loved the cloth diapers for that too. Get some bibs too. You should also register for some bowls and utensils. I got a few of those at my shower but definitely had to buy a lot more later on. So don't rule out the bowls and things like that for now. You will need them soon enough.
Have fun!

I use dropins with the twins. I really like that there is less to clean and that saves time!! I don't like that you have to buy bottle liners.

I only ever tried the drop-ins. I figured what if they like it, I don't need another bottle otherwise I would've just gotten another type. My kids had no issues with the drop-ins. I have twins and they are super easy to clean and as they suck the air collapses the bag making them take in less air.
My friend swears by Dr. brown's after trying every bottle on the market for her son (he had a lot of gas issues) and they are supposed to be amazing for that. But, there are a lot of little parts to clean. My other friend has used born free for all 3 kids. For her, it was the first and only bottle she ever tried and it worked so she just used the same brand.
I was super scared, because I heard so many kids have bottle aversions and preferences and that you never know what they'll like. But mine took no problem to the first one we gave them so you just never know.

Re: BTDT - a few registry questions
I recommend the Dr. Browns bottle set. It has enough small/large bottles you will need and all of the parts. It comes in 1 box so its an easy gift for someone to buy.
I didnt BF but I loved the boppy. I had a C section and the pillow made it more comfortable for me to hold the baby at first. I also liked using it when the baby was learning to sit up and wasnt 100% steady because it supported him from all sides. I would go for a boppy and pass on a bumbo seat.

Re: BTDT - a few registry questions
Hi!
I didn't BF and I had a boppy. Total waste. It is still sitting in my 3.5 year olds room now doing NOTHING. Skip it.
Bottles...eh, so hard to know. We had registered for about 4 kinds. Turns out DD hated them all and DH had to run to BRU the night DD came home b/c when we ran out of the hospital samples bottles with the latex nipple, DD didn't like any of the bottles or nipples (silicone) we had.
We wound up having to get more of the Playtex drop ins. LOVED them. As I said above, my DD refused to use the silicone nipple, had to be latex. Not sure why, but that was what the hospital started her on so that could have been why. So you just never know. I would suggest trying the Playtex drop ins, love them, they are so easy. All the others (Dr. Browns, Born Free) that we had got tossed. She just hated them!
Diapers, you never know. Not sure how far along you are and what your baby is weighing. Newborn size doesn't last them too long, so you may use them for a month, but may not at all. My DD was not in them for more than 2 weeks. Forget how many a day but could be as many as 8 I would say, in the beginning.
Not sure if you asked about it but a bumbo seat is for when they are able to support their head. I would wait on that if you register and prefer other items first.
DO NOT register for formula. Who knows what your DC will be sent home on and if it will agree with them. We had to switch a few times, so no way, never register for that.
I dont think you need anything for feeding other than bibs and the bottles and formula when the time comes.
And I agree with the above poster, go with the Pampers swaddlers. They are the only brand DD didn't get a rash from and didn't leak through.
Any other ? we are here for you!
