They way I'm trending, my doctor thinks the baby will be "8 and change."

I immediately thought of ALLLLLLL the outfits I got from my shower that were newborn sized. And yes, I already washed themChat Icon

I'm hoping that the newborn sizing is just a guideline and that some of them will fit a baby a bit bigger than 8 lbs?Chat Icon Chat Icon

They should fit. My second DS was 7-10 and wore newborn clothes for a month at least.

I'm not a BTDT mom but the baby should lose a little weight after delivery, I think she'll fit in nb clothes

I would say they will barely fit, maybe you will get a few days/weeks out of them. My DD was born at 8lbs 8oz and she ended up getting down to 6lbs 15oz because I had low milk supply.........at that point, she fit in NB. Once she got up around her birth weight again they started feeling too snug and I moved her into size 0-3. Chat Icon

I had a feeling i would have an 8lber LOL. So i exchanged all Newborn clothes for 0-3 months. DS was 7lb 11 and might have fit in the newborn for a few days but it wasnt worth it for me to keep them. I was glad i just kept 0-3. He was even out of them after about 1 month.

Since you already have them washed though you will get some use of them.

yes but not for long Chat Icon he was born at 8.7 lbs and left the hospital at 7.11lbs but was back up to birth weight within a week.

ETA - i think the LENGTH is more of an issue. Jack was 20.5 inches at birth and he outgrew everything NB in length before he outgrew things due to weight.

My 1st DD was 7lbs 11oz and newborn fit just right. The 0-3mths swam on her. At 1mth she was 10+lbs and we had to retire the newborn clothes

At 7week's my dd is over 9lbs 21inches long. She can fit into nb sizes with no problem and that's with a size 1 diaper.

Re: BTDT - if your baby was born 8+ lbs...could they still fit in some newborn clothes?

My DS was 9 lbs when he was born. Newborn clothing fit for a week, maybe two. After the clothes were washed, they shrank, and it was just easier to put him in 0-3 mos. at that point.

Newborn clothes will proably fit for about a month or less, depending on the clothes and length of your baby.

ds1 was just shy of 8lbs 21" and wore newborn for 1 WEEK. 5 outfits. LOL (he was 7lbs 10oz when we left the hospital)

ds2 was 8 1/2 lbs 21" and could never wear newborn. (He gained weight in the hospital - never lost)

DS was 9 lbs 8ozs and only wore certain newborn items for a couple weeks.

I had alot of gowns (with fold over hand/mitts) and he wore those in NB size for longer b/c they were long.

With DS I was told that he would be a big baby, and bought only 0-3 month clothing. He was then born 3 weeks early at 7lbs, and had to send my MIL to buy some newborn clothes. He wore the newborn size for about 2-3 weeks then went into the 0-3 month clothing.

ds was 7lb 6 oz and straight into 0-3 month clothes....he wasn't a chubby baby either .. I think there were a couple newborn handme downs that I used for a couple weeks mixed in with the 0-3
