BTDT: Anyone have a c-section at Winthrop?????

I posted this on "parenting " but dunno how to x-post...... I just found out that due to my baby being ginormous (& overdue) that I will be having a c-section at Winthrop on Wed. Does anyone have any advice for me? What is the "chain of events" after c-sections far as recovery & when I get to hold Chat Icon ? Also, I plan on breastfeeding so how does that work too? Any other advice/info is appreciated!!! Chat Icon

Re: BTDT: Anyone have a c-section at Winthrop?????

I just had one there in February. I had to have a c/s at 37 weeks because of pre eclampsia (my blood pressure was really high even though I was on meds, I had protein in my urine and my uric acid and creatine levels were increasing).

I didn't get to hold the baby until I was in recovery. DH cut the cord and held him while I was being sewed up. Then they took the baby to recovery and cleaned him up (DH went with the nurse to do this) and as soon as I was there, they gave him to me to breastfeed. I was in recovery about 2 hours before the baby and me were brought to the room together.

Re: BTDT: Anyone have a c-section at Winthrop?????

Hi I just had one 7 days ago. It's went fine. Actually 500% better than my lastb5yrs ago. Everyone from beginning to end was incredible.

I had my csection at 9:30 was in recovery by 10:45. dS was right next to me, I was super shaky from the Anastasia so I didn't hold him but if you are able you can and breastfeeding right there too. Was in my room by 1:30. I was up in a chair by 7pm. The cathatar was still in until the next morning. They won't let u eat until you pass gas. Getting up will help with that ASAP. They will take your IV out after you pee on your own. Stay ontop of your medicine every 6 hours I took Motrin and was good still sore but sooooo much better than last time. I opted to go home 1 day earlier, we had a private room and dh stayed with me all 3 nights, ,if you want a private room, you have to ask at check in, ask to be put on the list asap!!! DS didn't leave my room other than to be circumcised on day 3. We went home day 4. We couldn't wait to go home.

If u have any other questions fm me!!!

I cannot speak from experience but one of my friends had 2 c-sections there, one as recent as last year. She had nothing but positive things to say about the hospital, especially their NICU. Best of luck to you.

i delivered there almost 2 years ago (2 years on 5/6 Chat Icon )

they keep you in the pre-op/recovery room. you walk into the OR and they give you a spinal. once you are all setup and the Csection has begun, they bring in DH. About 40 minutes in, DS was born Chat Icon Chat Icon and they showed him to us and then took him to clean him, weigh and swaddle. They immediately gave him to DH to hold while they finished the surgery and closed me.

They placed DS between my legs and wheeled me from OR to recovery where I immediately held him - for about 40 minutes. Then DH went with DS to the nursery while I was in recovery. About an hour later, I was taken to my room. DH came up and met me and about 20 minutes later, they brought DS in.

Chat Icon I loved Winthrop, no complaints!

they wheeled the isolet to the family waiting area on the way up to the nursery so DH could show off DS - they only saw him for about 5 minutes before he went off to the nursery but it was enough! Family then saw DS when they brought him to me when I was in my room (about an hour later)
