Re: BTDT BFing moms.....
the begining sucks... it hurts you are CONSTANTLY NURSING, its not as easy as people think and you will want to give up multiple times.
Best advice I was given was to NEVER quit on a bad day.......
My daughter didn't latch until 7 W 5 D...... I waned ti throw in the towel a hundered time....
But now...well its AMAZING......... I love how when she is upset I can put a boob in her mouth and it will ALWAYS calm her... my DH calls it her sedative
Is grat to grab her out of the bassinet in the middle of the night and pop a boob in her mouth and fall back asleep.....
I can go on and on. There is an awesome thread on parenting.... "breastfeeding support thread" which is a wealth of knowledge

Re: BTDT BFing moms.....
If you are even thinking about breastfeeding I suggest you take a class. I went into the situation with very little knowledge which I regret (my son came almost a month early so I didn't have time to do research).
I think I would have learned what could/does effect breastfeeding which may have made my journey easier.
Good Luck! Patricia

Re: BTDT BFing moms.....
lactation consultants can be great - but they can also be crazy. i had two in the hospital - one was a sweetie and very supportive, the other (while nice) succeeded in scaring the crap out of me. she made me a nut case about how much/often my baby was eating - even when i KNEW she wasn't hungry. it wasn't until after her first dr's appointment at home that i finally reassured enough to relax and let her take the lead. life has been SO much better since.
so i guess the other part of that is follow your baby's schedule. breastfeeding is really "on demand" and unless there are complications, your baby will let you know when s/he needs something.
also, don't be afraid to share the load of caring for the baby. you might be the one that feeds the baby, but someone else can rock him/her to sleep or change a diaper. little things like that can make all the difference - especially at night (for one or two feedings feed dc in bed and then let dh or someone else put him/her back to bed).
