BTDT day care moms...how far in advance...
do you look into day care?
DS will be going to day care in August/September... I want to start looking - I would have started looking in September! But DH won't look until at least january.....
Any BTDT moms have any advice? TIA!

I put DS in the same time. Early Sept when he was 3 months old. The infant rooms book up fast and then there's a waiting list b/c they only allow only 8 babies in the classroom.
I started in February getting a listing of daycares in the area and calling then late Feb/early March visiting and interview them. I think it was early April that I signed the contract and there was already other kids booking up the classroom.

You must start looking now! Chances are any good Day Care already has a waiting list and you should get your child on it ASAP!

I was on a waiting list for a year for my daycare. It's never too early. We had to leave a $100 nonrefundable deposit, but it was worth it to me to have a spot for the time I needed it.

DD started Daycare in the month of February and I booked it the previous September.
ETA - baby #2 will be starting daycare in August and I just started looking last week. We have to switch the daycare where DD goes does not take infants part time.

For DS we put the deposit down in October of 2007 (I was still pregnant) for July 2008. That was a different time though - with so many layoffs, there are far more openings now than there were then. I actually just got off the phone with the daycare I want to send the boys to when we move and I can get an infant spot and a toddler spot starting in Feb.

DS was on a waitlist because I waited too long....I had to BEG the director to make room for him....which she thankfully did.....

ITA - at the new daycare I think we are switching to, I asked when I can start DD#1 and she said "tomorrow." They lost 2 people last week due to lay offs and 6 ppl a few months ago that all worked for the same company.

We started looking in August 2008 for a January 2009 start date. We were lucky that all the places had room for DD except one (which we didn't like anyway)

For infants, the earlier the better. For toddler age 3 or so months in advance is plenty of time based on my experience.
