BTDT Day care moms...
OK, so I know that today is only the second day, but it appears that DS needs to constantly be attached to any of the adults in his day care.
Yesterday they used the word "clingy" to describe him. I am sitting here watching the Parent View thing and I can see him just sitting there next to one of the girls in the room... all the other babies are crawling around playing and he is just attached to her.
Do you know if this will get better? Like I said, this is his second day in day care and he will be 1 on Sunday.
It breaks my heart that all he wants to do is be comforted by an adult and I can't be there to do it. I want him to play and have fun.
I can only hope that he will adjust little by little!

It will get better! He just needs to get used to his new surroundings and all the new people!

That's so sweet. And although I haven't BTDT yet, I would imagine this is a perfectly normal first reaction that will improve as he gets used to his surroundings. Same way we might be when we start a new job or class, he probably just needs to warm up to where he is and make a few buddies.

First...I wanted to say that I looked up the daycare that you said he was in to see if there was a location near mean for the sole purpose of being able to have this parent view thing...but the closest location is about 20 minutes away, and not in any direction that I normally travel in
Second...I think he will get used to being there in a few days. Your mom used to babysit, right? So, he was always with an adult...so that's what he knows. He will be playing with the other kids in no time

Re: BTDT Day care moms...
I don't know if I can be considered BTDT since DD has been in day care for a whole 10 days now but...
she too is clingy. She is so attached to the woman who runs the day care that the lady HIDES from my daughter so that she'll interact with everyone else. They are afraid that it will be a problem because that lady is going on vacation later this month and they don't want DD to fall apart if she's not there.
This week is better than last week though. Last week DD could NOT have the main lady out of her sight. This week she was better with the other girls.
I think in time they loosen up. I'm not really worried. I'm actually happy that DD has found an attachment with someone besides me. At least I know she's not scared without me, kwim?

Completely normal! It's a new environment and he needs to discover it on his own terms...and he will get comfortable and be happy there...very soon! It's a great sign that he has taken to one of the teachers...if he feels comfortable with her then he'll allow himself to slowly give other people a chance and soon he'll be walking in like he owns the joint...making you laugh each time.

Yeah, I have yet to make a final decision on how much I like this parent view thing. I can't stop looking at it and I almost feel like it breaks my heart more to see him from a far! *sigh*

It will get better. If he's in a new environment, I think clinginess can be expected.

Totally normal! Ben has been in daycare since he was 13 wks old and still goes through phases, especially after vacations or long weekends, where he is very clingy with one of his teachers. After a day or so, he's fine. Your little one will adjust.

Re: BTDT Day care moms...
My friend started her DD at daycare when she was a year old and she had a hard time at first. But she grew to love it and now she is excited to go to "school".
My DD was only 6 months when she started, so she adjusted very well quickly. But I see the other 8-10 month olds in her class now that just started, and they seem to be adjusting pretty well.
It'll take a few days to a couple of weeks. But soon DS will be familiar with his teachers and the other babies and he will be fine.
