BTDT IVF ladies

How many embryos did you transfer? DH and I are starting our first cycle of IVF in a few weeks and we've been going back and forth about how many we should transfer. We don't have the option to keep doing this over and over if it doesn't work the first time so we're leaning towards 2 just to better our chances. We're both comfortable with the possibility of twins, we're just owrried about the added risk for both me and the babies if we end up with a multiple regnancy.

Anyone have any advice/suggestions? I know our docotr prefers to only transfer one but he did say that ultimately if we decided we wanted to go with two the decision was ours. But he would not do more than two.

DD was a single embryo transfer Chat Icon

Our original plan, up until transfer day was to transfer 2....I was at a heightened risk for OHSS because they retrieved 26 eggs and the RE thought best that we only transfer 1 because OHSS can be worsened w/ a multiple pregnancy..

I was devestated thinking we cut our chances in half...The RE reassured us that putting back one instead of 2 would only decrease our chances for a "pregnancy" by 2 % ! They explained why ( though I do not recall how it was told to me)

My DD was a hatching blastocyst and they were so sure she would implant that the embryologist told me to send him a picture when the baby was born Chat Icon

I was so happy that I listened to them, as I ended up w/ placenta previa and cannot even imagine what would have occured had it been a multiples pregancy...

I would say to listen to your RE, plans may change on transfer day depending on how your embies look, and they are the experts...

Good Luck Chat Icon !

2. Unless you have a medical condition, I think 2 gives you the best odds (if you are around 30).

Re: BTDT IVF ladies

i transfered two

it was my first IVF, but I did PGD so I wasn't sure if any of them would make it. The day of the transfer my doctor asked if i wanted to transfer three and i said no! and thank God bc now i am pregnant with twins!

I would def do two - if you're comfortable with the idea of having twins, then you might as well go for two since it would give you a better chance of getting pregnant

good luck!

I guess it would depend on a few things, age, quality of embryos, condition etc…I am in the situation, not sure how many times I could do this, so I was wondering what are the chances of 3 making it, or is that crazy?

For WIW, I was 33 at the time of my single embie transfer...

I'm 35 now, and the RE is again reccomending 1 for my FETChat Icon

Re: BTDT IVF ladies

Due to my age and fertility issues our plan was:

3 embryos on a 3dt or 2 embryos on a 5dt.

Since both of my fresh cycles were 3dt's we put 3 back.

For my FET we put 2 back.

Re: BTDT IVF ladies

Thanks for all the responses! I'm 25 but like I said in my original post this is basically our only shot, at least for awhile. DH and I talked last night and we've pretty much decided to go with 2 so long as the doctor doesn't see any reason we shouldn't.
