BTDT mommies of 2 or more I need advice re: DC #1 sleep issue since bringing home DC #2

I was SO happy and relieved when we came home from the hospital and my 28 month old DS was acting totally fine and happy about his new baby sister- no jealousy issues - always telling me how cute and beautiful she is and that he loves her etc. etc. The only thing that seems to bother him alot is when she cries - he tells me right away and tells me she is scared and I have to make her stop crying.

Here is the problem - since she came home his sleep has been really affected. At naptime he refuses to go in the crib at all - he will scream and yell and throw a fit in the crib that he wants to go downstairs. It's not that big of a deal only b/c he only really napped a few times a week b/f she came home but, he would at least play in his crib for 30 min or so. Now the bigger issue - he was never a great sleeper - would always wake up 1 or 2 days a week in the middle of the night. The problem is now he is waking up every night and he REFUSES to go back to sleep. He screams and yells and practically jumps out of the crib if I don't get him immediately and then wants to go downstairs and watch TV and if I don't give him he screams and screams until I do. Then, he won't go back to sleep - AT ALL - for the rest of the night. CIO isn't really an option b/c I know he will jump out of the crib if I leave him in there for long enough.

I don't get it b/c we make a big deal about all of us going to sleep - we put DD down in her bassinet first so he doesn't think we are all awake and partying out etc.

We are really losing it here though. B/c basically DH and I are getting ZERO sleep b/c even when our 1 wk old is sleeping HE is up half the night. I'm so scared what I am going to do when DH goes back to work.

PLEASE HELP! TIA Chat Icon

Mine are 20 months apart and while DD was great with the adjustment of DS coming home, my awesome sleeper went WILD! It took a good few weeks but she threw the biggest fits at bed time. I think they just get very confused and overwhelmed with all of the changes, then hearing the baby cry interrupts their sleep and they act out.

It's a big adjustment for everyone - it will get better soon!Chat Icon

We would just read an extra book...or more. Sometimes DH would go lay with her until she fell asleep. Then eventually we were so tired we just let her scream.Chat Icon

Def normal and def gets easier!Chat Icon
