Re: BTDT momns: blocked tear duct

Kaydyn was born with both tear ducts blocked. She had 4 infections the first year. One eye cleared up on it's own, the other did not open so she had surgery at 14 months to open it up.

The ped said to massage from the outside of the eye in toward the bridge of the nose several times a day. Also wipe with a warm washcloth several times a day to clean out any gunk that had accumulated.

Re: BTDT momns: blocked tear duct

I went through this with both of my DS's. For one, we were actually given eye drops. For the other, we were told to try gently massaging the area with a soft, warm cloth. From the outer part of the nose, just massage upward toward the inner corner of the eye. This helps push out the goo. HTH. Chat Icon

Re: BTDT momns: blocked tear duct

I am so proud to say that my son woke up today with not one piece of crust in his eye and not 1 wet eyelash. He looks great and is doing really well. The doctor said when he went in with the probe he was completely blocked and there was so much mucus. I am hoping he has a great decrease in ear infections. Yes the ear infections were related according to my ped and Dr. Cossari. I am so glad I did it. It was such a fast procedure. By the time the doctor came to get me in the waiting room my son already was awake. They don't give that much anesthesia b/c it's so quick. My son had no side effects. Thank god!!

DS had this in the beginning. Like others said, we massaged his eye a lot. We also put some drops in his eye which seemed to clear it up.

Re: BTDT momns: blocked tear duct

My DD had this... The dr said that it should clear up by 6 months.. and if at 9 months it doesn't they give you a referral to the opthomologist... Needless to say my DD's clogged duct cleard up about 2 days before her 9 month dr's check up. So it can take a while. But the dr did give us drops to help with the yuck and gooieness...They seemed to help.
