BTDT Moms-How to give ear drops to an active 10 month old?
DD will be 10 months on tuesday- I just found out she has a bad double ear infection and the ped said in addition to her antibiotics I should give her ear drops for the pain. He said I would need to put them in the ear then have her lay that way for a while then do the other side. Umm can a BTDT mom tell me how to do that with an active baby who doesn't lay still - I can barely change her diaper without wrestling her b/c she is rolling all over and trying to sit or stand up and my ped tells me she is strong as an ox...

Re: BTDT Moms-How to give ear drops to an active 10 month old?
We had to do this once when DS was about that age. Basically I had to have DH hold his head and arms, while I put the drops in. Its like trying to use the saline drops, its awful trying to do it.
Um I was never told that they had to be laying for a time afterward, so I have no advice for that because I don't see how that's possible. Maybe do it right before nap time??

The pharmacist said to do it at night time before bed b.c it is once a day? I just assume they mean that they have to stay that way for a bit so it doesn't run immediately out? Tonight should be interesting...

Oh ya if its only once a day I would do it right before bed, this way she's laying down for a long time. It really doesn't drip out though, I swear it like sticks to the ear wax or something lol.
Poor thing, I hope she feels better soon! And I'm also sorry you have to do that, its really no fun, but it will get rid of the infection faster so its worth it

I have to do both ears. Really she is feeling good- I had no idea until my ped mentioned it at her well visit.

i had to give kyle eye drops......
so you take them pin them under your calves with their head between your knees and give the drops fasts...
hubby tended to just hold him down and lost alot of drops

Unfortunately she basically does this all the time b/c she is always saying I love you baby, I love you Maddie and giving her huge bear hugs. Needless to say I don't think Maddie who usually LOVES her likes them very much.

We had to hold DD cheek to cheek or just at nap/sleep time to keep her still for a few minutes.
Not an easy task especially with a baby that just wants to be moving. Can you try giving a little tylenol first as a calming agent before giving the drops?

Re: BTDT Moms-How to give ear drops to an active 10 month old?
Since I'm the mom of the walking forever ear infection I'd like to add my advice.
Three words.. FAST AS POSSIBLE!
I put her on the floor
I have her laying on her side (which ever)
I sit on her (not my full weight) I put my knees on either side of her body and use my pelvis to hold down her hip. So my calves/shins are holding her in.
I use my forearms (elbows to wrists) to control corral her upper body. I’m literally folded over her
My hands - I use my left hand to hold her face over and my right holds the bottle and cups her ear so it (the hand) doesn’t move while I’m putting in the drops.
I put those drops in as fast as humanly possible to count out six and release her.
The whole she-bang takes me less than a minute. But I’ve got this down to a fluid movement at this point.
She stops crying pretty quickly.. I give it a few minutes then flip her over and repeat (as necessary)
I have never heard of her having to say in that position for any length of time.
Alternatively.... SNEAK ATTACK
If its just one ear or if im feeling ambitious, I’ll ninja attack her.
While she’s sitting up watching TV I’ll come up behind her and push her head to the side and sneak them in. She’s usually too distracted for a second or two and by the time she’s angry that I’ve got her head in a lock, she’s nearly done. By the second grunt/cry/fuss I’m done.
And there's Munch and Meds
Daycare and I have figured out she cares less when she’s chewing on a treat if I sneak in and get them in. Doesn’t even wince. So we try to do this but she really has to be into her food and you REALLY gotta be quick!
