BTDT moms- water breaking question
So after reading medic6809's story about her water breaking on line in Bath and Body Works, it basically addressed my biggest fear about this pregnancy!! I'm so scared of my water breaking in a really public/embarrassing/inconvenient place! I'm 37 weeks now, so the closer it gets, the more I'm freaking myself out about it. I sing at church every Sunday and I am convinced it's going to happen there while I'm leading the congregation in some hymn!! So my question is- did any BTDT moms have your water break somewhere really embarrassing?? What did you do? How was it handled??

Re: BTDT moms- water breaking question
My understanding is that the majority of peoples water doesn't actually break. It's usually broken in the hospital.
This was a fear of mine with DS, which is why when we got a new mattress we made sure to buy the cover for it lol. But my water never broke!

Re: BTDT moms- water breaking question
My water broke
#1 - at home & it wasn't a huge gush, just trickling. I read most labors begin at night...not sure how true it is but it was in both cases for me.
#2 - in the hospital AFTER the baby was born. She came out in the sac.

My water broke AT HOME and it was a huge gush in fact it felt like it never stopped...If it broke in public I really dont think i would be that embarrased only because it is obvious you are pregnant and you didnt just pee your pants but as the previous poster said not a lot of ladies water ever breaks

Re: BTDT moms- water breaking question
Mine broke at home while I was in bed. I have only realized this later after removing the mattress cover and looking at the huge stain on my mattress. I always knew I had a slow leak.

Re: BTDT moms- water breaking question
They broke mine in the hospital. I really would try not to worry, i think it's something like less than 10% of people's water breaks on its own.

Re: BTDT moms- water breaking question
My water never broke - they had to break it in the hospital - thankfully the epidural was in full effect.

Re: BTDT moms- water breaking question
mine broke in my Dr's office - HUGE gush and it continued to gush for over 2 hours. HUGE gush - like it was ALL OVER the floor in the Dr's office. I had several of the huge maternity pads, disposable underwear, those blue pads that they put under you during an exam, even a GOWN- ALL IN MY PANTS and it was still running down my legs. I probably used a week's worth of the OB's office supplies.
I admit, I was embarassed. I must've apologized to the poor nurses about 78 times. I wonder who got stuck cleaning up my mess...
Once I hit 30 weeks, I put old towels, clean undies, and a pair of yoga pants in my car. Thank GOD I had those towels, otherwise I'd probably STILL be scrubbing my car seat
I arrived at the hospital about 5 hours after my water broke and it had finally stopped running and was only trickling. Just 1 huge maternity pad got the job done.
My situation was a little different - usually when your water breaks, the baby can no longer float, so he drops down in the uterus and his head acts as a stopper, trapping fluid above it. MY DS had the cord wrapped around his neck twice and body once, so he remained high up in my uterus until just minutes before I delivered, therefore ALL of my water came out. I had no stoppage above his body.
Don't freak about this! You're pregnant! As someone already said, everyone will know the baby is coming. No one will think you peed yourself!

Re: BTDT moms- water breaking question
My water broke at 39 weeks in bed at 3 am THANK GOD!!! It was a ridiculously huge gush, and yes, had it happened at work, or in public, it would have sucked!
Prepare yourself with pads/towels/extra pants..whatever else you can think of...because it did not stop all day when I got to hospital!

Re: BTDT moms- water breaking question
Thanks ladies- I do feel somewhat better after reading all your responses. I know it's such a ridiculous thing to have anxiety over, but for some reason I have been stressing about it since like a day after getting our BFP! I try and remind myself that on the offchance it did happen in public, of course ppl would understand since I'd have a big preggo belly and they would know I didn't just pee myself! I guess there's nothing I can do to control it anyway so I gotta just let it go!

Re: BTDT moms- water breaking question
My water broke while I was at home sitting on the couch. Not a big gush, I just felt a pop and got up and ran as fast as my belly would allow because I didn't want to get anything on my rug.

I'm sorry I don't mean to laugh but the image of this is cracking me up because I'm picturing myself doing the same thing.

Re: BTDT moms- water breaking question
Mine broke at home - I was sitting on the couch and felt like I got my period and was like W T F was that? I went to the bathroom and more 'fell out' as I told DH
It wasn't anything like the fear I had of standing in a puddle at the office or something .........just a little bit at a time.
