BTDT Moms who BF: Does pumping hurt?
I am really motivated to BF our LO for at least the first 3 months. However, I plan to pump as well so DH can feed the baby too.
Upon my research of pumps I made the mistake of watching a demonstration video . Now let me just say I am not shy about these types of things, I think BF'ing is a beautiful thing but sweet jesus the pump looks like it's really going to hurt the "girls"

It doesn't hurt any more than actual BFing IMO.

Re: BTDT Moms who BF: Does pumping hurt?
With DD I only used a manual pump and it KILLED me, i hated it! For this one I bought an electric one so hopefully it's not as bad. When I was BFing I didnt find it painful at all after about the 2nd day.

I wouldn't say it hurt but its a little uncomfortable. It takes much longer then actually having baby on the b reast. There are other ways for husband to be involved.

Yeah, unfortunately I will be going back to work after 12 weeks. If we decide to keep up with the BF (hopefully so) I'm going to have to pump too.

Re: BTDT Moms who BF: Does pumping hurt?
DD was just born 4 days ago and I have been breastfeeding since day one - I find the actual breastfeeding to be a little uncomfortable some times and takes a long time (30 min each breast with burping in between) I started pumping for the first time yesterday and IMO it is way easier, much quicker and much more comfortable. I also only plan on breastfeeding/pumping for around 3 months because I have to go back to work and I just rented the Medela Symphony pump and so far so good. Good Luck

It didn't hurt at all for me. Sometimes my nipples would be sensitive afterwards, especially when clothing fabric rubbed against them, but if you just "air them out" and go topless for a little while, it's fine.

Re: BTDT Moms who BF: Does pumping hurt?
I prepared myself the first time DS latched for it to hurt (like others told me it would) & it didn't. Quite honestly I think the pumping felt a bit more "intense" bc of the suction but I had no issues. DS only bruised me once & that was bc he had a bad latch

It didn't hurt but it did feel a little weird at first. Just sorta strange to have these two things pulling at your boobies but no pain at all.

Re: BTDT Moms who BF: Does pumping hurt?
It should not hurt! They say to turn the pump up and then back to where it is comfortable for you. A lot of women make the mistake of thinking you have to turn it all the way up to get the most out of it, which isnt true. Hope this helps!

I agree that it's a little uncomfortable. DS was never an efficient nurser. Pumping always took less time than BFing, but after the first month or two, I definitely preferred BFing over pumping.

Pumping never hurt me. I agree with the previous poster who suggested starting at a low setting. When you are full it may actually feel like relief.

Re: BTDT Moms who BF: Does pumping hurt?
it hurts if you have an issue with the nipples (cracks etc) but other than that, no.
you just get used to it. you feel something but it's not pain.
your nipples will have a rough go in the beginning more than likely.
but I am on month 8 and it's simply wonderful now.
