Re: Bulletin Board Monthly Ideas-September

I am doing a "Quilt" theme....

I have bulletin board border that looks like a patchwork quilt and then I found a quilt icon on Clip Art and blew a bunch of them up and put the kids' names on it and patched it together to look like a quilt.

Looking for a witty saying... will probably do something like, "one quilt, many pieces, one class, many people."

My co-teacher that I push in with for part of the day is doing a puzzle theme for all the kids... "Ms. XXXX's class: a perfect fit!" Each kid has a puzzle piece with their name on it.

Very cute idea!! I usually do an "all about me" glyph bc working in the city we had to have "student work"up.

Karen- I love that quilt idea!!

I am doing the same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm very excited about it!

I also do a huge sun with yellow and orange sentence strips as the rays and inside the sun it
say "Under the Summer Sun...." and each child gets a strip and writes something they did over the summer. It comes out great!

I do something very simple and cute.. because I'm usually a stress case for time before school starts. I do a froggy theme with little frog cut outs.. the middle says come hop into first grade. I write each kids name on a different frog. Not very creative but you do what you gotta do. :)

This is the first year that I saw puzzle border and puzzle cutouts, so I will do this one. I just finished writing each student a welcome note on a puzzle, and I will send one puzzle to each child.

I have done in the past:
* Welcome to ___Grade Starring....with kids names on stars and I made one of those black and white director's boards.

*I've also done _____Grade All-Stars with stars.

Inside board I am doing:Fourth Graders Ready to Learn and Grow. Flower border on aqua backer.
Each student gets a flower with their pic on it. They will do two goals for the year next to their flower. (Next to the "Growing Great Writers" Writing Process board.)

(ok, so I get a little theme obsessive. Chat Icon )

First Grade:

"Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Welcome to our Room". I make a big coconut tree and make a coconut for each child and write their names on it. Backing is pink like the cover of the book, border is pink with orange sticky dots, also to go along with the cover.

Re: Bulletin Board Monthly Ideas-September

I haven't decided which one to actually do, but here are my two ideas:

1) Make a large gumball machine, and give each student a gumball to write something about themselves. I'll probably take a picture of each student during the 1st week and stick those in there. I'd put as the heading "Our Fifth Grade Class is Pretty Sweet!"

or...

2) Make a clothesline. Each child gets a t-shirt (more room to write) and the heading would be "Fifth Grade Suits Us to a T"

It's tough transitioning from K to 5th grade...I have no idea what's age appropriate! Chat Icon

Re: Bulletin Board Monthly Ideas-September

I use dalmations. I made one and photocopied. I color in the collar red and have a yellow circle hanging off the collar with each students name. I make a larger dalmation with my name on it. I then have up the saying, "Look who's been spotted in Second Grade" The saying changes in October for fire safety month. I have the students write about what they learned about fire safety and we attach it to the dalmations.

Re: Bulletin Board Monthly Ideas-September

I teach first grade and I send butterflies out before school with a letter to each child.
The letter says something like..I get nervous the first day of school too and get butterflies in my stomach. I have a special jar in the class to put the butterflies in the classroom when you arrive. The kids are instructed to decorate their butterfly and when they feel ready they can place it in the jar..it was cute and I use it as a bulletin board the second day and have them try and write sentence strips about the first day. I work on LI, my school is very lax. GOOD LUCK to all school is around the corner now!Chat Icon

Re: Bulletin Board Monthly Ideas-September

First Grade:
"Look who popped into First Grade"
I cut out popcorn pieces from yellow construction paper and wrote all of the children's names on them and then I found a popcorn bucket graphic on the internet and blew it up and put it on the bottom of the board so it looks like all of the popcorn is coming out of the bucket.
Outside of my classroom I have
"Look who is hanging out in First Grade" and I cut out t-shirt shapes from white construction paper and hung them up with their names using clothspins. Then on the first day the kids color their shirts and we hang them up again.
