C-Section
So what are the reasons for a scheduled c-section? I'm curious to know what circumstances a section would fall under.

I will be 19 weeks Sunday and was told that I would have a c-section around 36 weeks.
2 years ago, I had a myomectomy and removed eight fibroids from my uterus. Because it was so invasive, doctors are fearful of rupture if I carry to full term.

I will have to have one if the baby stays breech. It will be scheduled for 39 weeks so he has 4 weeks to turn.

I think "scheduled" c-sections are only for women who already had a c-section with a previous birth or when the baby is in a breech position.
Emergency c-sections happen when the fetus is in distress which can be caused by a number of things. The other reason would be that the labor is not progressing or slowing down which is often caused by getting an epidural too early.

You can be scheduled for a c-section for MANY reasons.
Here are a few:
1. Maternal distress (high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, sexually transmitted disease that can be transmitted to the baby via a vaginal delivery, Herpes for example).
2. Breech or Transverse presentation of your baby
3. Fetal distress. If your baby needs to be taken from you NOW for any number of reasons including birth defects, a true cord knot, dangerously low fluid).
A previous c-section is not the only reason for a scheduled one.

I'm having twins and after talking with my doctor I want the delivery to go as smooth as possible with no surprises. I would hate to try and deliver naturally and have one baby flip and then need a c/s anyway.

My "c" with my DS was due to his size...This one is a repeat c-section (v-bac was too risky for me) I also would have ended up with a "c" this time due to placenta previa ...

I more than likely be having a c-section. I am having twins, so the only way I can even try a vaginal delivery is if both babies are head down. If one or both is not I will be scheduled for a c-section

I had an emergency c-section with my 1st pregnancy for high BP, so my Dr told me I would have a repeat c with my 2nd too, I asked about a VBAC but he said its to dangerous and I would have to worry about Uterine bleeding, so without question I went for another c-section.

ditto-my cervix has been measured very long too which there is some research may increase the chance of a c-section

I have a friend who said that not only was her son breech, but he would have recommended her to have a c-section because she's quite tiny. She's an average woman to me........about 5'2 and probably about 130 lbs before she put on the baby weight. Is this "the norm".

Lots of reasons:
- Baby's position
- Baby's health (heart distress, etc..)
- Previous c-section (although some moms opt for a VBAC)
- Mom's health issues (placentia previa, blood pressure issues, cervix issues, scaring tissues, any other health issues the mom may have).

another one:
previous c-section- after one section, the next are usually optional/elective if you don't want to try for a VBAC.

I had a c-section due to a failed induction and fetal distress....if and when I get pregnant again, I will be a scheduled c-section
I do not want to risk doing a vbac

I will be having a c-section at the 36/37 weeks because of placenta previa as well as due to a factor XI deficiency....which is a blood clotting disorder for which my hematologist prefers if I was in a controlled environment during delivery.

If it is a second baby, and there was a c-section for the first, it's likely that you will need to do it for all subsequent births.
Also, if people have had other surgeries, C Section can be a safer option.

First one was because my son was breech..and possible IUGR
2nd is scheduled because of the previous c-section and surgery I had to remove one of my ovaries 12 years ago..

That is not entirely true. My Dr would have let me try for a VBAC but I didn't what to have to bein labor for hours only to find out I was not progressing well or some other reason and then have a c-section.
There are a few women on here that had a VBAC for their 2nd or 3rd child.

I will be having a scheduled c-section because of a ruptured disc in my back. My OB says that she's seen women with no back problems rupture discs during delivery. I will most likely need some form of back surgery right after I deliver, so she would rather not take the chance in making my back any worse than it is.

I have gestational diabetes..........if prior to 40 weeks the baby measure at 10lbs or more they are going to schedule me for a C-section. They won't even let me try to deliver on my own if the baby is over 10lbs.

I'm 5'2" & I weighed less than 120 when I got pregnant with my daughter (those were the days...  ). I had a c-section, but it wasn't scheduled & it wasn't due to my size. My doctors never even suggested that size would be an issue at all. I honestly don't think that is or should be the norm.
