C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
So it is surprising to me how "common" this situation of the incision re-opening post op. It happened to me and a couple of other mom's I know.
Did it happen to you? How long did it take to finally heal? Were you on Home Healthcare where a nurse comes to pack the incision daily?

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
I guess I will answer my own question.
It did happen to me. Took almost 11 weeks to completely heal. It seemed as though the minute one part closed another would reopen. Then finally, inside tissue healed on the outside and my OB had to cortorize (sp?) it!! And I was on home healthcare for I think a total of 10 weeks. What a mess.

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
YES!
See my post below...
I had DD in July
incision was slightly oozing...had visiting nurses visit me and it got better...then worse....now better
Today I went to plastic surgeon...he's going to give it 3 more weeks otherwise I need to get surgery
I never thought about this occurring (well my c section was an emergency so I had no idea)
its a real PITA though
I can't believe its been 4 months and I'm still dealing w/this issue!

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
My incision didn't open up but because I got an infection it took a long time to heal and close. I didn't have anyone come to the house...I had to go to the OB every week until 6 weeks to make sure it was healing properly.

I also had an infection. Was put on a very high dose round of antibiotics as well.

A corner of mine re-opened at 12 weeks. I went back to the doc and they put tape over it. A couple week alter it closed and I had no further issues.

I think it is more the exception than the norm. I just wanted to say that b/c the people who did have problems will answer here and it may appear to be more common than it is.

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
I got a little bit of a skin infection around the incision, but no problems with the incision itself.

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
I actually had no troubles at all...When it first began to heal, one side was doing better then the other but after about 4 weeks, I was completely healed up....Now at 10.5 weeks PP,I have no issues at all & can tell the incision is tightly closed

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
Nope. I have had 2 c-sections and both healed perfectly. In fact, I am almost 4 months post partum and my incision isn't even red anymore and is practically invisible in some areas.

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
I had an infection and my incision opened with my first c-section, a nurse came for three days and after that my poor DH took over with the packing duties. I owe him for that one!
I believe it also started becoming infected for my second section but I recognized the signs early on and called my OB who put me on antibiotics and it healed.

Same here. I was told to put A&D on it and it healed up on its own.

same with me. one of my friends had an infection...but she had a girdle on from day one...I think that was the cause. I was scared of infection and took a blow dryer to incision every time I got out of the shower.

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
Yes I did. When I came home from the hospitial my incision began to ooze very badly. My OBGYN attempted to patch it up, but it the end she pulled all the stitching out. It was very painful. Then I had a nurse come to my house and pack my open wound for 3 weeks. It was so painful in the beginning. I could not believe I had this big whole on my body. After the 3 weeks I saw my OBGYN every week for about 2 months. My wound still would not heal completely. The I went to an abdominal surgeon. I finally healed completely and was able to remove any bandaging or abdominal pads after 4 months.
I just feel lucky that I didnt have to get another surgery, and it was me who suffered, not my baby girl.

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
NO ISSUES, I have had 2 c-sections and had no problems, and as a matter of fact, my scar is so tiny and thin, I am totally impressed with it!

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
Question for those who had issues with their incision...did your dr use staples in conjunction with stitches? Just curious
I had staples which were removed a week later and I had no problems.

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
no, but I took my docs advice very seriously I didn't do much 2 weeks after, I didn't drive, lift, nothing. I had stitches but my scar keloided and it looks horrible! I'm having another kid and will probably go to a Plastics to fix it after if it scars again.

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
With my first c-section, my doctor opened it up in the office, because it was about to open on its own. I had a nurse come once and show my mom how to pack it (Mom's a retired nurse) and then my mom did it for me everyday. Otherwise, I would have had home healthcare do it.

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
no problems here but im also lucky that my incision is VERY low, so there wasnt a lot of pulling or stretching (as with abdominal incisions) that would cause it to reopen
also made it easier to get out of bed the first time bc they didnt cut through my abdominal muscles

Re: C-Section moms - did you have incision issues?
I had no problems with it. My incision healed very nicely. In fact, I was told by the midwives when I was pregnant with DS that I had a very nice scar- it's thin, tiny & barely visible.
